Luggage question

Does anyone know if a trolley fits into the lockers at the train stations? We need to leave luggage at Shirokawago, Hiroshima & Himeji stations.

Thanks

What do you mean by trolley? The things that they have at the airport for luggage? If so, they don't have them in train stations.

If you mean a suitcase with wheels, it depends on the size. Hiroshima and Himeji have lockers, but finding a free one can sometimes be impossible, and if you have large bags they may not fit even in the largest ones. Shirakawago does not have a train station. You go there by bus, and there really is no station per say. I have no idee if there are coin lockers in the tourist informationc center, we've always gone by car. We may go tomorrow actually, so if we do I'll check that for you. Mrwnrfl may also know?

By trolley I mean a small suitcase with wheels the type you are allowed to take on to a plane, it's size is roughly 60 x 35cm. We plan on sending our large suitcase on to Kyoto but we need to take a bag for a couple of overnights. I see that a lot of people stop off at Shirakawago for a few hours before heading to Kanazawa so I assume that there's someplace to leave luggage it would be great if you could find this out for me & of course we are going by bus to Kanazawa from Takayama.

I don't remember for sure, but I think there are lockers at the tourist info center or in a building behind it. I would expect there to be lockers at the open-air gassho village museum part of shirakwago across the river.

There are lockers at Hiroshima station, of course, and have used them 4 or 5 times without any trouble. Come down the escalator from the shinkansen platforms and turn left and they are right there. There are probably more lockers over on the non-shinkansen part.

In addition to the JR Himeji station lockers there are also lockers at Himeji castle. Just a few steps past the ticket gate turn around and you will see them. Probably big enough for your bag.

When I was there I saw a couple of young people who already were in the castle and just then decided that it was a bad idea to continue carrying their backpacks. Big packs, with frames, like they thought they were going to carry them up the ladders to the top (5th) floor of the castle. I don't know what happened to them but I assume they worked something out.

Thanks everybody, your info is essential especially as I've planned this trip in 2 weeks, I'm taking note of everything & hope you'll bare with me for the next 10 days before we leave as I have only got to the Takayama stage for questions.

Bad news Clark55. Our plans changed for today and we are headed only as far as Gokayama, so I won't get to check the luggage storage facilities in Shirakawa-go. Sorry about that.

Kim, no problem, I'm pretty sure there must be luggage facilities because many people stop in Shirakawago on there way to Kanazawa & most of them must have som sort of luggage.
