Luang Pranbang Tour Guide suggestion??
 

A 60 year old active couple would like a private tour guide for two days in Luang Pranbang, Laos - January 2017.

Do you have any suggestions for an English speaking driver/guide?

This will be our first visit in this area.

Absolutely no need for a guide in Luang Prabang.

I agree. LP is very small and you can easily walk around the main sights in a day. Maybe if you want to visit the popular sights outside if the town like Kuang si waterfalls and/ or Pak Ou caves (neither of which I would recommend BTW) then a guide would be helpful. There are plenty of tour operators on the main drag, just pop into one of those. Green Dragon used to be highly recommended by some.

If you want to visit out of town places, you need a driver - no need whatsoever for a guide.

Or a boat, for the caves. Or a boat just for sail up/down the river, which is lovely.

The city itself does not lend itself to driving. You need to walk around. And crellston is right--it can be done in one day. However, it is tricky finding all of the temples, so you need to arm yourself with a really good map. Try to download one before you go. Also, allow time to talk to some of the young monks. They want to practice their English. Most people dash into the temples, take pictures, and leave.

Since you are active, you might enjoy a day hike in the area. I went to the travel agency next to the post office, I believe, and I arranged for a one day hike. I was the only participant, and it was really nice that they did not cancel. My guide was a former monk, so it was interesting talking to him about why he "changed careers."

Agree. No need whatsoever for a guide here, and no need for you to feel nervous that you wouldn't be able to maneuver on your own.
