Luang Prabang Wats
 

Any suggestions of favourite wats to see in Luang Prabang?

I know their are loads but am just interested in a few.

Wat Xieng Thong, (on the peninsular formed where the Mekong and the Nam Khan rivers meet), Wat Wisunarat (Visoun) Also climb Mount Phu Si (wat and great view over Luang Prabang) That will give you a start, I'm sure other people will have other suggestions. All are within easy walking distance of each other.

Definitely Wat Xieng Thong. Try to be there for evening prayers. I did that several times - sitting mermaid fashion with incense spiraling up in front of me, and mist rising from the river just outside, and the chant weaving them together. Aside from that, just wander. Any of them might become your favorite. LP is above all a place to have no plans.

Agree on Wat Xieng Thong. I have a soft spot in my heart for Wat Nong since we stayed right next to it I think of it as our Wat. There's also one with a beautiful garden of bouganvillia near the cultural center -- unfortunately don't remember the name. An amazing art gallery nearby as well.

Totally agree with thursdayd that just wonder -- best way to enjoy LP is to have no plans!

there is one almost next to the palace which is quite lovely and a brand new one on the palace grounds

One of the joys of Lp is wandering to and fro. You will walk by many of the Wats and will have the opportunity to see all of them. It's not like BKK, the Wat itself does not need to be a destination.
