None. You?

I just use the web as per normal. Apps are annoying.

travelmom I suggest you disregard the postings above and ignore it.

Here are some apps from the tourism authority of Thailand: http://mobile.tourismthailand.org/

From my own phone I find the following apps useful:

Easy Taxi
Thai Holidays
ipoodthai - (I speak Thai) I see some foreign friends use this and it looks useful.

Lots more apps around and if I can think of more I'll post them here.

We purchased a couple of mapping apps before we went to Paris in May. Ironically, we found that google maps (free!) was more useful because it gave information like with Metro exit to use. I haven't used it much in SE Asia, but I expect it would be equally useful there.

I haven't used any apps specific to SE Asia, but bookmarked Easy Taxi for my next trip to Bangkok.

One more that I just remember - the TripAdvisor app is pretty good. I use it to search for restaurants near me and you can get verbal instructions on how to get there by foot or car, through Google map.

There are some great subway/ MRT apps, I use the one for BKK and Singapore.
I also use XE. Com to get up to date currency converters ( they have an app for IPhones AND Blackberrys )

I downloaded the Tripadvisor app and found it to be ordinary so deleted it.

As above google maps is more useful than an app.

<i>"As above google maps is more useful than an app."</i> Google maps has apps for smartphones which is very useful as it's linked to other apps like TripAdvisor's. Imagine you've arrived in a city that you're not familiar with and you can't find your hotel. You can go to the TA app and either directly input the name of your hotel or use their "near me now" function and then get directions. The TA app will transfer your enquiry to google maps app and directions will be given visually as well as verbally.

Hotel locations arent so accurate on these maps. Maps are better for long distance travel along roads. They are good for planning which roads to take between cities on driving tours.

Having the exact hotel address written down in Thai far more useful to give to a driver. Hotel websites have this in printable form usually.

Most Thais cant read maps very well (esp if its English) and if the map has the hotel in the wrong spot not useful at all.

Prachuap you should read the OP's question again and notice the fact she's not asking anyone's opinion on whether apps are useful but rather on other people's favourite travel apps.
