About 2 weeks ago when I celebrated New Year in LP I checked out the Chang heritage Hotel. The only downside is that this hotel has no pool. However it is beautifully designed and totally made with materials that blend in to the environment. It is about half the price of the Phou Vao.
By the way the Kuangsi falls had very little water in them. I enjoyed the trip to the Pak Ou caves. The trip is perhaps better than the final destination, but is well worth it.

We are booked in the Chang Heritage in Jan. 2010 -which seems like a really wonderful hotel.
Any thoughts- I loved the feel of what I have seen, would love a pool but won't go out of town for it. How is the location of the Chang?

The location of the Chang Heritage is very good facing the Khan river and only a short walk to the major attractions and restaurants of the old city. We stayed in the Khan Suite which is on the top floor but the Khan Deluxe is just as good but on the first floor. The room deco were all wood so it was kind of dark inside. Ask for the corner room nearest to the reception area and you will get wifi in the room.
Call them up and negotiate the price and ask for extras, airport pickup etc., for the best deal.
