Luang Prabang hotel suggestion please?
Hi there,
We are planning a trip to LP next month (have heard such nice things about it and we are in need a little relaxing getaway), but we just can't decide where to stay. I understand that La Residence is further out of town (but that it's easy to get into town by tuk tuk), but I'm wondering if it's nicer than La Maison in town? We are travelling with a toddler, and it's an anniversary so we are willing to pay more for a nice place. If anyone could please kindly share their thoughts on where would be the "best" place (nicest hotel) to stay in LP I would be most grateful.
Thank you so much for your help! All the best!

La Residence Phou Vao is on the edge of town, a quick ride into town. (There are several places way out of town, maybe 15-20 minute ride into town) La Residence is really lovely, wiith huge rooms and a beautiful infinity pool overlooking Mt. Phousi and the town. You would easily have space for a crib or bed for the toddler.
By all accounts La Maison is lovely, but I don't know about room size and whether there is now a pool.

Except in Vietnam, 'Ph' is used to represent a soft 'P' sound when transliterating SE Asian languages. It is NEVER used to make an 'F' sound.
'P' on its own is used for a hard 'P' sound, which in Thai and Lao is almost a 'B'.
'Phuket' should really be spelled 'Buket' or 'Booket', but I've always suspected that they spelt it with a 'Ph' out of some sort of perversity.

Maison Souvanaphoum is lovely, and we liked being in town, but the rooms are quite small and unless you get a suite I don't thik there would be room for a crib or another bed. You may be better off at La Residence Phou Vao with a toddler.

rooms are very hard to come by....you may not have a choice...better act quickly...
i believe the rooms at maison are quite small...
the rooms at pansea are huge....we loved it there...they have a free shuttle into town all day and in the evening as well....tuk tuks are $1 per person last i checked...always per person....

We are stayin in the 3 Nagas In early April http://www.3nagas.com/ . We decided on this one as it as it was right in the town and has very large spacious rooms. We chose one of the 1st floor suites as we read reports on Tripadvisor that the downstair rooms suffer from noise from the rooms above due to the wooden floors, plus they have their own entrance, private verandah etc. They would seem ideal for a family travelling with a toddler but being an old hotel the safety standards probably wont be up to the standards of the Pansea or La Residence (We stayed in La Residence in Hue - it was a fantastic hotel!)
As Bob has pointed out - rooms will be in very short supply, particularly at the upper end - book quickly!

The Residence Phou Vau is absolutely gorgeous, as mentioned above. I am pretty certain that it is the "nicest" place to stay. It is among the loveliest hotels I have stayed at in Asia. Do not worry about transport..they will take you into town, or you can easily hire a tuk tuk. They have different price levels of rooms so come back with questions if you decide to reserve..
