Thanks all for helping on this trip to India. I am sorry to hear that the Oberoi Group is diluting its standards of excellence. I have been fascinated with India ever since I was 16 years old and I feel this will be a fabulous trip.

Rest assured there will be no stepping out of our circumferance (sp?). No Bundi, Kot(whatever) and oddities like that. This won't be a repeat of all of our horrendous trips to Africa (see africa board).

In any case--If any one can suggest acouple of mainstream types of extensions and furthermore, who is replacing tho Oberoi hotels as the best? The Taj group doesn't seem so impressive.

Scared to death, think u misunderstood the ref to Oberoi. Oberois no longer want to be a member of LHW as they feel LHW is becming too liberal in its membership. W.r.to other places to stay Taj and Oberoi are different levels altogether. Vilas properties are the most luxurious acco in India. In terms of non Oberoi optios it is city specific. E.g. I agree with Ciecrone that if one wants a large, converted palace hotel in Jaipur as opposed to a boutique, resort exp Rambagh is gorgeous. Neemrana has some gorgeous properties. Casino Group in Kerala.
