I am a fan of it too, I've been looking for it each day. It is getting me more excited for my upcoming trip in Sept.

Ditto to the previous messages. As independent travelers ourselves, we have found Vicky and Sandy's experiences both informative and entertaining. However, we won't be able to read to end, as we are off to Beijing tomorrow for 3 weeks of adventures in China. Thanks to them we feel even more confident in our ability to get around. Thanks also to other posters (Peter, et.al). We have received a lot of useful information from all of you.

What a refreshing change from 'up for grabs' trip reports. I shall miss the final installment too as I am going away for two weeks on Thursday. I hope to catch up when I return. Well done, Vicki & Sandi.

I can't find it either, must have been deleted. I was really enjoying it. There is no logic behind what stays and what goes on these boards.

I can understand the logic of this "deletion" as it seemed to be clear, from the start, that the folks on the trip were unaware of its being presented on the Fodor's forum. If they had known, they probably wouldn't have named fellow travelers and their opinions of them on the forum. If they were successful in having their private thoughts deleted......all the power to them. They did write a delightful diary. They certainly have a sense of humor that was not left at home. Unlike another "poster", I did not find their
time on their own to be particularly inviting........45 minute walks thru the jungle to "break the local law"....I guess I fear snakes and creepy crawlies too much to find this sort of thing to my liking, but to each his own. I really enjoy the "usual" travelogues that are filled with the many little hints that I'm looking for.
At any rate, I'm glad that travelogue is off the forum so that their fellow tour travelers won't be subjected to reading about themselves!

While I can understand the above reasoning (if that is the actual reason that Fodors chose to delete the thread - we don't really know do we?), I'm still disappointed it's gone.

My friend and I wrote the emails to what we thought were our friends. The emails were our thoughts and impressions of "our" trip.

Someone, without our knowledge and consent, sent them to Fodor's and they were published.

We would not have minded if our personal comments had been deleted.

We wrote and asked Fodor's to delete the thread and they promptly did.

This is just another reason why we need registration.

I love this Forum and all the valuable information that I have received from it. BTW, the info I received from Peter and Kang was right on, they know what they're talking about. Thanks to you two and all the others who shared information with us.

Happy travels to all,
Sandy (& Vicki)

Well, Sandy, I hope you learned from this that you shouldn't put anything in writing that you don't won't disseminated to others. Once something is in an electronic format, it has a life of its own. How do you know that your friends and family didn't forward your emails to their friends and family, and so on...

I guess you'll think twice before making fun of people...

While I enjoyed the information from the travelogue posted here, it sounded as if the two of you weren't the most companionable people to be around.

BTW, I forwarded your email to at least 30 other people I know interested in China...I wonder if any of them were on your tour?

It was never our intention to hurt anyone, we were just trying to let our family and friends share our trip with us, and we did learn . . . we deleted all suspects off our email list.

We've sent many, many of our travelog emails back to our friends/family for about the last 5 years and this was the very first time they were made public so we have some pretty good guesses about who did it.

And about our lawbreaking episode . . . we bought a day tour in good faith and were escorted to a boat. Only after we were aboard, sailed, let off on some bank somewhere did we find out we were escapees from justice. After being let us somewhere in the jungle, we had no course except to follow the one person who spoke Chinese. It was another of those making-the-best-of-the-situation plans (part of the joys and pitfalls of independent travel). We are both very law conscious and would never, ever knowlingly break the law in our country or abroad.

Sandy

Hey x, why don't you keep your negative comments to yourself? I think they would be great to travel with and I loved reading their reports.

Sandy & Vicki,
Please forgive me; I didn't mean to imply that you were looking to break the law. I just thought it was a good example of why I wouldn't want to travel independently. Tour guides on the tours keep us less adventurous ones from adventures of this sort, which makes me feel more secure. You are both real troopers and I, too, enjoyed your travelogue, but at the same time, I felt badly for you as I really believed that you didn't know your thoughts were being posted on this forum. Again, I'm sorry if I upset you. Brenda

Sandy & Vicki,
I really enjoyed reading about your trip. I can understand why you asked Fodor's to remove it, since it was posted without your knowledge. Could you post an edited version so others could read it too? It was one of the best trip reports I've seen, it was fun to read. Can you post the last portion of your trip report (from Yangshuo back to Beijing)? I really enjoyed reading the other parts, it got me more excited for my upcoming trip in September.

I agree that a edited posting would be fantastic. I throughly enjoyed reading about your adventures and daily life while in China and look forward to my trip in 3 months reading these stories. I definitely want to go to X'ian and visit the store you mentioned but can remember the full name but know it had "Home" in the beginning of the name. Plus the wonderful head and shoulder massages. Hope to hear about the end of your trip.

Sandy,

I too thoroughly enjoyed every bit of your travel journal. I have just made plans with a group of friends to go next April. When it was deleted, which I completely understand, I wished I had made a copy of it for my files.

If you wouldn't mind, many of us would love to have a copy of an edited version.

I plan to go the massage route too. It must have been wonderful!

Sue

Hey Sandy and Vicki
I read the travelogue before it was deleted and thought it was great. I think your comments about your fellow travelers made the whole thing more readable. Who hasn't been on a tour with the insufferables? I think we all relate. Obviously you didn't mean to be publicly offensive to anyone - so I say 'that's life'! Glad you had a great trip we enjoyed reading about it.
