Looking for a specific Angkor book

When we were in Siem Reap in November, I saw a beautiful book of photos of the temples. It was hardcover, cost $60US, I saw it a couple of different places - - the only one that was really a "coffee table" book. I didn't want to buy it there and drag it around but I'm trying to find it here in the states. Stupidly, I didn't write down any info about it but I think it might have been published by Asia books. Does anyone know it or have a copy so that I can trace it? If not, anyone going on a trip anytime soon who could write down the info for me? Thanks everyone

I found a number of books in Siem Reap that appear not to be available elsewhere. One that I purchased was a book of old photos of Angkor that was published by Asia Books. Is that the one you are thinking of?

I am not sure that the photos were old, I wasn't looking at it that closely. What I remember most was that it was $60, it was quite hefty, photos were gorgeous.

The book I'm thinking of is a fascimile copy of a very old book, you would have rememberred that the photos were old. I'd suggest that you go to amazon.com and browse the books on Angkor. Unless it's a book published exclusively in Asia, you'll likely find it there.

Thanks, Kathie, going to Amazon was the first thing I did. There is a book by Jon Ortner but it is not published by Asia books so I am not sure it is the same one, that's why I was hoping someone on a visit to Siem Reap could write down the info!

Well, I went through a stack of my books and found the following:

Ruins of Angkor Cambodia in 1909 (this is one I bought in Siem Reap, it was published by Asia Books)

Several that were available in the US, though they may have been re-published by Asia Books if they are now out of print:
Ancient Angkor by Michael Freedman & Claude Jacques

Sancuary The Temples of Angkor by Steve McCurry

Sacred Places by Kenro Izu (this has photos not only of Angkor, but of other places, but I did see it in Siem Reap)

Also, try the Asia Book website www.asiabooks.com and see if you can find anything that looks like what you saw.

Good Luck! When I was in Siem Reap, I regretted that I didn't have more space in my suitcase, as they had the most extensive collecton of books on Angkor of anyplace I've been.

There is a Steve McCurry that is a National Geographic photographer and has done a lot of work in Asia. He took the photo of the Afgan girl with the haunting green eyes that has been published all over. So if the book had incredible color photos I would look at that one.

Thanks, I ordered the Claude, Freeman book from Asia books on line, but they need to contact me for credit card info, etc and it will come from Thailand. I appreciate the info, I am pretty sure that is the one I was looking at.
