My FiL was the original engineer in charge of the massive Raffles area re-development project; DH spent three years in Singapore as a kid. They family lived in Orchard Towers, which is a bit different now from the expat family housing it was back then ;-)

At Raffles, avoid the Long Bar, which is designed for tourists. Instead, go into the original Writers Bar, which is elegant and serene. You can drink single malts there. Or choose from an array of cocktails. I like their Vodka Collins, even if they are about $20 each.

Hi Robert. I hope you are well in Nepal after the devastations caused by the quakes. Thanks for the affirmation of our hotel choice. I know a fellow there who is actually a wedding photographer and we met a young lady recently who lived there for a yr. and both said that hotel is a good choice. Do enjoy Bhutan as well. Perhaps this is the most mystic country on earth.

BTW what is the weather like in mid to late Feb? Thats when we are to be there.

JW, February (according to Singapore RN friend) is a great time weather-wise. Compared to where I live (SF Bay Area) it will be HOT...but nothing a guy who survives Chicago summers can't handle!
I think what most surprised me about Singapore was its tropical feel and look! Delightfully evident, even in the midst of all the modern high rise bldgs.

Letty (the OP) hasn't returned, so what the heck, i'll digress bit more off the topic of hotels. Try to get to the Botanic Garden. I'm not "into" flowers, but i loved it!! It's an interesting walk/stroll from there back to your hotel...took maybe 2.5 hours, but i made a bunch of stops for mall shopping and food. My favorite was just down the road from the Botanic Garden, at the Tanglin Mall. Unlike so many of the high rise malls in Singapore, Tanglin is about three stories and filled with unique shops--clothing, home design-- and Starbucks!! There was something about the atmosphere of this relatively small corner mall that I loved.

I had a beautiful suite at the St Regis. So close to everywhere, including the train station. Taxis were a reasonable price I thought and things were close. Singapore is not huge.
