Loi Krathong--Is it worth a trip reschedule??

Loi Krathong is November 5th this year. We were not intending to arrive in Thailand until the 6th (at the earliest) or one week later. Is this festival worth rescheduling our trip (no tickets purchased yet). Also, if so, is it better to witness in Chiang Mai or Bangkok? Any help would be most appreciated.

If its not a big hassle, arrive on the 4th to catch it...its by far the most beuatiful thai festival and a great experience. the most spectacular celebrations are in Sukhothai, but if its not on your planned route, Bangkok should be fine, especially if you are staying in one of the big river-side hotels.

i have been to thailand about 9 or 10 times and have been there once before during LK that i know of...that time we were in hua hin.....the experience was quite nice and memorable....seeing those lite "boats" float into the sky over the ocean was fantastic....one after another until there were at least hundreds if not thousands of them....

i have rescheduled my 2006 trip to allow me to be in bangkok for LK this year, so that i can see the wonderful fireworks over the river and to see the true illuminated boats on the river....

we look forward to this as a highlight of our stay....

kathie posted fantastic pics of the fireworks from last year....perhaps she will post the address for others to look at them again...

Yes, we were in Bangkok during Loy Krathong in 2005. You can see the photos of the fireworks on the river at www.marlandc.com

I've been to Thailand many times but I hadn't been there during Loy Krathong before. We opted to change our dates for 2006 so we'll be in Bangkok again for Loy Krathong.

Yes, if it's possible to get to Thailand a bit earlier to catch LK then do so. And it's best seen in the North.

Thanks so much for your input. And, Kathie, your photos are fantastic. Since the timing was so close, I am definately going to plan on arriving in Bangkok before the festival begins.

You should not miss LK and Sukhothai is a good place to see it.

I changed my date for leaving also, just to be there for Loi Krathong. We will be in Chaing Mai that day. I am looking forward to everything but that awful flight!
