Le Royal Meridien, Bangkok

Does anyone know anything about this property? How's the location?

We stayed at the Royal Meridien President last month as part of a Grand Circle Tour. It's ok, seems to be full of mostly group tours. The hallways on the upper floors need to have the carpet replaced, it's dirty and stained. The newer hotel, also called Royal Meridien is next door.
The location is ok, it's a long ways to the river and most of the sights, but Tuk tuks are cheap and the elevated rail is just across the street.

I stayed there last year for 5 days. It,s just in front of the SOGO .The World trad center and skttrain are nearby. And it newly opened in 1997,still a new one. Each Room has the computer with internet. In front of the Royal MERIDIEN is the president Meridient. It,s more cheap but old.

I just stayed there in February and thought the hotel was just fine. Lobby is very nice, some shops with the hotel, and the room was very nice. Another Meridien at a higher cost is across the driveway. I thought the neighborhood seemed upscale. I was on a tour so didn't need to find other transportation. However, the roadways are horrendous regardless of your transportation. I would suppose the Skytrain would be much better but from what I've read, doesn't go everywhere. Also, there were no computers in the room. The above correspondent might have meant within the hotel or internet connections within the room should you have a laptop. Right across the street is an internet cafe in the mall.

I thought the president was the Le Meridien president was the older 4*hotel and the Royal Meridien was the newer 5* hotel. The Royal tag is usually reserved for their swanky properies.

Double check this before you book. There are some other excellent 5* hotels nearby

So sorry; I just reread my post and realized I stayed at Le Meridien President. I did like this hotel and didn't feel it was old and run down. As I mentioned I like the location.

I always stay at the Le Royal Meriden in Bangkok. Not The Merident President. Le Royal Meridien has nice staff, nice pool and nice gym. Very near the skytrain.
