Layover of 12 hours at Terminal 2 in Taipei

On a return trip from Okinawa to Vancouver BC Canada, I have about a 12 hour connection time. Does anyone know what I can do for this length of time and how much local funds one would need to eat etc. I certainly don't want to get too much?

What time of day?

You can get to and from Taipei by bus or taxi, but its 50 kms one way. You can eat quite cheaply either at night markets or the mall at the train station (where the buses go to).

Lonely Planet has a guide book to Taiwan.

Thanks for your reply.
Will arrive before noon and leave just before midnight. Do you recommend getting local funds or will US $, credit cards and debit cards work well?

I recommend using an ATM for local cash, and a credit card. Why would you think US dollars would work?

You should have time to visit the main museum and possibly one of the temples, plus one of the night markets. Click on my name for my East Asia TR for suggestions.

You might take the half-day free tour of the city:

Thanks for you info. I don't know why I was thinking US would work. Will check out your East Asia TR.

The airport is an hour outside of the city, so plan accordingly. The National Palace Museum is open until 5:00 pm every day and that should be your first stop. You could also visit Long Shan Temple anytime, day or night. Dine at Taipei's famous dumpling restaurant (there are several locations), Ding Tai Feng. The original is near the Chiang Kai Shek memorial. Happy eating!
