Bangkok to Koh Tao: Train or bus?

I have been looking into taking the train from Bangkok to the ferry to Koh Tao. Does anyone have a preference? I have heard good things about both.

The train is a lot slower, but has a better safety record than buses. The main ferry operator, Lomprayah, offers a combined ticket that includes a bus directly to the ferry pier. It's probably the simplest option.

I'm glad to see Michael reply, as I suspect scubastoy may be a spammer.
