Vientiane - not so much to see and it was unclear as to whether the museum which has moved to the outskirts of the city is open. To fill a second day we did a day eco tour with Green Discovery to the nature reserve. At 100$ each, it is not recommended. Over four hour’s uninteresting drive, an uninteresting river trip and a walk through a bamboo forest. The waterfall was nice, but did not justify the trip.
Vang Vieng - the scenery is simply stunning and should not be missed. We motorbiked the first day and did the 10km downstream kayak the second, followed by a hot air balloon ride at sunset. The town is not pretty, but is OK and not the noisy party town is apparently used to be.
Luang Prabang - even nicer than we expected. A lovely town.
