If you are looking for a luxury resort in Langkawi, the new Four Seasons has just opened. I think they are offering a stay 3 nights and get one free deal. You can probably check it out on their website.

I'vbe never stayed at the Datai. As an island Langkawi is very quiet and that makes it a relaxing and pleasant place. Kuah Town has some shops but the duty / tax free is not as exciting as you might expect. It is a very easy place to get around as traffic is not busy and roads are good, it is a great island to have a rental and just head out around the island. People are relaxed. Scenary wise nice.

I've been to Langkawi a couple times and stayed at the Datai once. I can tell you some information about the Datai and Andaman. The hotels are sisterhotels and located in a beautiful jungle. The Andaman is a much bigger hotel with more a hotel feeling, whilst the Datai is smaller and more intimate. If you're going with children I'd recommend the Andaman because it's more informal and is more a family hotel. The Datai is excellent if you're looking for real luxury. Other luxury hotels are a great competition for the Datai, but for me the Datai is the best hotel I've ever stayed. It's very secluded and the beach is one of the nicest on the island. You really get the exclusive feeling here and it's so quiet. Staff is extremely friendly.
I actually have been in Langkawi last december and saw work in progress at the Four Seasons. The hotel is quite big and the location is not as excellent as the Datai's. It's on a quite busy road, speaking Langkawi terms. But it's true they have a good deal now and I guess it's very nice and brandnew.

If you want more info, don't hesitate to ask me

sqskybed,

I read that FS beach is across the street from the hotel? Is that true? How would you rate the Datai beach compare to Andaman & FS beach. We want clear clam wather with white sand beach. Thank you. Was there a lot of rocks inside of the Datai beach?

Message: We stayed at the Berjaya in the bungalows on the stilts. The service was great. Langkawi is a nice, quiet, relaxing type of place We did do one snorkelling trip which was a lot of fun.

The FS is located on the beach. It isn't true there's a road between the hotel and the beach. I'm quite sure the FS beach is only for hotel residents. The Datai and Andaman are next to each other so beach at both is quite the same and stunning. Especially the surroundings and the jungle around the beach area are spectacular. The FS beach isn't really special. All the beaches are nice white sand and clear water. You shouldn't expect any rocks at the Datai in the water. Hope this helped you a bit

The Datai is certainly one IMO one of the top ten resort hotels in the world. We got married their about 8 years ago and they were absolutely excellent in arranging everything. Check out their website for rooms and facilities. The Thai restaurant which is built out on to a platorm in the rainforest canopy is the best outside of Thailand. If you choose to stay, book a Villa which are individually set in the rainforest and are fantastic. They can also arrange desert island picnics if required. Only problem - v.expensive in high season.

Also stayed at the Tanjung Rhu which was quite nice , but simply not in the same league as the Datai. As far as Langkawi is concerned, it is a very nice Island with superb beaches, but not a huge amount to see or do - rent a car for a few days to get around the island and rent a boat to get out to some of the other 98 islands.

I was in Langkawi a couple of weeks back and saw both the Datai and the Andaman. These 2 sister hotels are located on a pristine private beach on the north side of the island - the best side for clear, unpolluted waters. I too preferred the Andaman, the rooms there are lovely, especially the beach view ones! Only thing about this hotel is that it is out of the way. You'll need to hire a car, a scooter or the services of a taxi driver to go around.

FS is right on the whitest beach in Langkawi. Havent been in the hotel since it's so new.Datai is truly unique as it is architecturally sensitive to, and blends in with the forest surroundings.Beach is not so white or wide tho.Andaman is the sister hotel of Datai next door and is more mass mkt (tho still expensive). FS is new and the service is superb but you can get a FS experience anywhere. Datai is the only one of its kind in the world.stay right in the forest, hear the crickets and see the monkeys while having b'fast.

I am looking to book The Datai for our holiday next year but not sure which room/villa category to book? Can anyone give me some tips or advice on which room to go for? Also not sure what time of year to go. We do not want to get rain and would like it to be fairly warm too. does anyone know the best way to go from the UK and how long were the flights. Look forward to hearing more about The Datai. Thanks in advance. Maryjo.

I think Malaysia Airlines via Kuala Lumpur or Singapore Airlines via Singapore ( connecting at Singapore with their Silk Air local flights, Silk Air is fully owned by Singapore Airlines ) would be your best bet. They both fly from both London and Manchester.

My friends booked at the Datai on Langkawi for their honeymoon and it was very nice but it was 2 years ago that they went there.

any room at the datai is superb. if you want isolation take the stand alone villas which are on its own on the forest floor. you get to listen to all the animals and insects. there is a private plunge pool but no views.

The rooms in the main bldg have great views and are double the size of a normal hotel room but you hv neighbours on both sides.

I would choose the corner suite in the main bldg as i like the views which overlook the canopy of the rainforest.
