Langkawi or Ko Samui

We are going to Thailand in December. We have to choose between going to Ko Samui or going down to Langkawi. (We already have Krabi penned into our schedule) Please help.

We would further like to know whether one can do a day trip to Khao Sok NP from Krabi

Thanks

As you are going to Krabi already I would chose Koh Samui, as Langkawi would be quite similar to Krabi. However, I haven't been in December so am not sure about the weather you would expect. Hope someone can give you more information. Enjoy your holiday. (We are going to Bangkok and Koh samui next summer.)

i have spent several winters in thailand. it seems that it is normal for the weather to be better earlier in the season, dec and early jan on the west side, samui or area can still have lots of wind and rain. trouble getting good weather information. try phuket area after krabi if weather not holding for you in samui. sanook

Koh Samui has great food, a nightlife comparable to Ibiza on the island of Koh Phangan, really cheap massages and great beaches, good dives.

Langkawi only has the best hotel in the world-Datai.

Hi Connie

What you could do is to go to Khao Lak (1 hours drive by car from Phuket). There you find many small hotels and bungalows. From there you can either go by rented car (Budget is there) to Khao Sok NP or by organized tours.
Khao Lak is not yet so overcrowded by tourists as Krabi and Koh Samui.
If you need to decide for Ko Samui or Langkawi I would definitely go to Koh Samui.
Have fun and a good trip
Bruno

Personally I prefer Langkawi to Samui, but there really isn't much in it. I think Samui's probably bigger and the towns are mich more developed. Bear in mind though that Dec in Langkawi is peak tourist season, so it may well be booked up everywhere. Wherever you go you'll have a fantastic time - lovely food, lovely people lovely everything in both places!
Enjoy
