Langkawi
Anyone know how to pronounce this?
|
Depends where you are from and your own accent, roughly speaking though:
'Lang' as in 'sang or 'pang' 'ka' an in 'car' 'wi' an in 'we' lang-car-we |
James-I beg to differ. It's pronounced Lang...COW....ee, here in the Hunter.
|
Lyndie, do you live in the Hunter Valley?
|
why would you take diction lessons from criminals...
|
I've always pronounced it Lang-COW-ee, too. However, Thais pronounce it Lang-car-we, it's been a while since I've been in Malaysia so I can't remember how they say it.
|
Moooooo! Yes laurieco, I live in the Hunter Valley. Cow territory, grape territory, the darnest nicest part of NSW, imho. Moving back to Central Coast soon though. It's tooo quiet with all that mooing & bird chirping.
And Bob, not all of us are descended from criminals. Some of us were free settlers. Others of us were Welsh landed gentry. So there! |
The Hunter Valley is lovely. I've stayed there a couple of times. Where are you moving to? I haven't been to Australia in a few years. Eric and I keep saying we have to go back. Perhaps next time we'll look for a place in Tazmania. We always say we want to retire there. Talk about quiet!!
|
A in the malay language is like A in spanish eg casa.
so langkawi is pronounced as lung-car-we. |
howdy hornbill. Tks for the clarification. I'll be sure to practice my pronunciation when I'm there next month.
laurieco-not sure of new home but will keep you posted. Home is just where we hang our hats. The world is our home! Planning a move to Sri Lanka or India for our permanent retirement! Tassie is glorious but too cold for us. |
