Is this a good place to go for a non-city Hong Kong experience?
The descriptions I have read make the coastal walk and the restaurants seem like it might be a good experience. We were thinking about walking on the Peak and looking for another walk experience. The rest of the time we would spend in Kowloon or the city area.

can't speak to the walk but the dinner experience is quite nice...not fancy by good fresh fish...the boat ride is very enjoyable...go for dinner...go before dark and return after dark when all the lites are on...fabulous

Don't know where u are coming from but gets quite chilly on the boat especially en route back. I think a late lunch is also nice and the ferry ride is a great opportunity to get an overview of the entire island. Agree with Bob - seafood is amazing. Rainbow is famous but other restaurants are also good.

The seafood restaurants on Lamma are located at Sok Kwu Wan. There's a path that goes from Yung Shu Wan to Sok Kwu Wan, which takes probably about 1.5-2 hours, but it's not coastal. It climbs over the back of the island - not too strenuous, but definitely not flat. And if you're doing this in winter time, make sure you don't start too late, as I don't think the path is lighted.

while rainbow is famous, so are its prices...i prefer one of the family run places...

Thanks for the feedback. Any other restaurant recommendations would be appreciated. We like seafood but not high prices!

I looked at the map and my 'coastal' comment was obviously wrong. That's why I have to travel to fix my geography. We would like to do the walk but it will be mid-December.

Restaurants abound on the coast - last time we went we stopped at one after haggling with the waitress - that's the other thing, the staff is trying hard to lure people in as the offering is pretty similar. A bit like Jimbaran Beach, Bali! At the Peak my favourite restaurant is The Peak Lookout but u need to book in advance. Move N Pick has recently opened a kitchen style eatery at The Peak where u choose your food then it is cooked - is doing very well too.

the family restaurant that we ate at twice is called:
Tai Yuen Restaurant at sok kwa wan on lamma...it is about 3/4 of the way down the line of restaurants from the boat stop...
for italian we like Amaroni's Little Italy which is in wan chai...
