Ladakh - pictures and notes on a recent trip

My wife and I recently had a marvellous trip to Ladakh.

Pictures and notes from the trip are at:

Nice photos. I do hope you will write an account of your trip for us.

Did you have any problems with the altitude?

@ Kathie

We had been to much higher altitudes in Bolivia overnight and did not expect too many problems, although then we had some acclimatisation in Chile first.

Leh is different in that you fly straight into high altitude. We did nothing at all on the first day, just lazed at the hotel. We avoided alcohol all trip until right at the end and then only had a little. We don’t smoke. We drank plenty of water (but not too much - that can cause worse problems). We walked slowly, especially when climbing.

We got breathless with exercise, but then that is to be expected with the limited amount of oxygen available. On the high passes we were very conscious of this, but it didn’t really impede activity and guides make certain you don’t spend long there.

Just some slight headaches for the first few days. One thing I knew I might experience was bad sleeping (lungs are less effective lying down) so I made certain I had a comfy chair and blankets in the room and used them on several occasions.

There are some notes on what we did in the text pages.

Thanks. I had missed the text pages. Very useful trip report. We visited Sikkim in November. It also has a lot of Tibetan Buddhist monasteries and gorgeous snow-capped peaks, but also deep, lush semi-tropical valleys.
