For those of you planning on going to downtown, here's a National Geographic Traveler walking tour for Downtown LA.
http://traveler.nationalgeographic.c...es-interactive Unfortunately, I can't figure out a way to print it. You need to click on the numbers on the map for info. Filmwill-Have you sent out any final details yet? |
:) Details will be coming in email form to all attendees sometime this weekend.
Thanks for posting that, Kristina. I know Kathie is planning on staying downtown, but this is a great jaunt also for those who are interested in exploring downtown after dim sum on Sunday! |
...and how fortuituous that our dim sum restaurant (empress pavillion) is #1 on the map. :)
couldn't have planned it better myself. |
I'm looking forward to the final details! Thanks for posting the walking tour, Kristina.
|
Kathie,
We are also staying downtown across the street from you at the Westin......anyway I think it's across the street, lol Can't wait for next week! Aloha! |
Have a wonderful time!
Here are some exuberant thoughts based on a quick visit a year and a half ago. We stayed downtown and I was pleasantly surprised (although relatives from the Sherman Oaks area seemed aghast at our choice). We easterners had some prejudices about loving San Francisco and not caring for LA but now I can't think why that was so. Just stuffy misconceptions, I suppose. If you can get past the name, the Walt Disney Concert Hall is a fascinating building well worth visiting, particularly if you can go when the main hall is open to visitors. Outside of downtown, the Hollywood studio tour (Paramount) had a bit too much of a self-impressed vibe and the Hollywood area seemed a little faded but, that area, like Rodeo Drive, was fun to see. I am sure that we took the subway back to downtown from Hollywood (although our relatives insisted that the subway line didn't exist). The Huntington in Pasadena was truly spectacular. A marvel. I don't know any other site that combines an art collection, library, and gardens in this way. If you know of such a site, please tell me. What a treasure. Bon voyage and enjoy the GTG. |
hey you all, have a good time, how can you not with film running the show. :-)
blast! i will be missing all the big 3 gtgs this year. maybe i can convince kml to have lunch with me in sin in oct. |
looking forward to the e mail, but more to seeing everyone again and having some of film's hand-picked foods...
we arrive wednesday at 6PM |
Ken you won't be there? Too bad! And you won't be at the HNL gtg? Boooo...
You'll be missed! |
Ken... any chance we can see you in HNL on another day, other than the GTG times? We plan on a week or more in Hawaii. We don't have tickets yet, but I see that prices are about 1/3 less than last year's... some good deals right now!
Also, what about a GTG with you in BKK? I hope the LA GTG is a great event. Wish I could be there. I'm sure Bill will take good care of everyone and show them a good time. Carol |
hi kathie and carol, yes, i will miss the hnl gtg, but i am in town the during the week before, and the week after the gtg, so i am ready, willing and able for a pre/post hnl gtg, gtg. ht and i were just talking about doing something before or after the gtg.
carol, i've seen some great fares on ua flt 1&2, under $650. haven't checked on sea-hnl yet. how does it look kathie? |
Ken, we can fly from PIA to HNL round trip for about $635. That's about $300 cheaper than flights other years past. I'm almost ready to book. Looks like we will arrive on the Tuesday before the GTG. Maybe we can have dinner or something. Brad wants to play in the pool tournament on Tuesday night.. his favorite place.. you remember where it is, I think.
