Kyoto Stationery Shops
Wondering if anyone can recommend any stationery shops in Kyoto. I've heard they're great. Thank You.

I can not recommend one specifically, but can assure you that every department store will have a stationary section, every shopping center, most bookstores...no problem finding a place to buy stationary.

Where is Florence, this question reminds me of her and her affinity for Kyoto and washi. I haven't seen her here in awhile.

There's a terrific stationery shop in Teramachi-dori, the covered pedestrian street. I don't know the name of the shop (though I believe it may be listed in Dianne Durston's book), but it's near the northern end of Teramachi (the City Hall end). If you were to enter Teramachi-dori from the City Hall end and walk south, the shop is about 1 block ahead, on the right.

One of the best known and oldest established (1830s) is Sakurai-ya, which is on the corner of Shin Kyogoku shopping street and Sanjo-dori. Open daily from 11am to 8.30pm.

Another vote for the stationery shop rizutto mentioned. It's called Kyukyodo, and has amazing selection of rolled woodprint papers, regular stationery, caligraphy goods and Japanese incense. This is their only Kyoto store I know of, but they have several branches in Kyoto, including the one in the middle of Ginza.

Loved that Teramachi-dori shop, very reasonably priced too. I bought many sheets of exquisite wrapping paper which I can't bear to part with.
