Kyoto Hotels, which of the two
Hello all,
I will be in Kyoto in 2017. My list of hotels have come down to these two. 1. Rihga Royal 2, Kyoto Tokyu. My preferences are 1. good quality hotel with nice rooms 2. being in a location where I can walk more 3. breakfast buffet 4. I would pay more for a better room and experience Thanks a lot in advance |
It depends on your interests, but I wouldn't choose either -- I prefer to be in the Kawaramachi district, precisely because I like to be around interesting areas to walk around in the evening. These two hotels are not in areas that are particularly "walkable" for the places I most enjoy in Kyoto, but maybe you have different preferences.
With a budget that can accommodate these two options, I would think you could do better. I could easily be wrong. Oddly enough, someone asked about the Rihga just a few days ago! I was going to direct you to the link, but it seems that the person who posted that thread has discontinued her account, so it doesn't seem that you can learn from each other. |

@ lcuy: I'm not sure I know what you mean, my dear. ;-)
@ travelsb: Have you checked booking.com? It's a great resource. |
OP sounds a LOT like a doctor . . . >)

my post should have been >:-) kja
I see you understood it perfectly! |
@ janisj: As a doctor (but not a physician), I have no objection to respectful posts by people, regardless of their profession -- and that's been my sense of your responses over the years, too. I appreciate that travelsb has posed a straightforward question and has thanked us, in advance, for our input. I hope we can provide information that will prove helpful. JMO.

@ lcuy: Indeed!

The Rihga Royal is right next to the station -- not an area I'd stay if I wanted to walk anyplace.

Not sure what that means. You can walk to wherever you wish. But that doesn't mean there aren't any good places near Kyoto Stn. Quite the contrary, in fact. The Honganji Temples are very nice, plus Toji, Sanjusangendo, the new railway museum, Kikokutei...plus to take the Nara Line or go to Arashiyama, Kyoto Stn is ideal. Not to mention that the station itself at night is quite a treat.
There are great places in nearly every corner of the city though. |

I meant most sites are quite far from the station. Yes, the Nishi and Higashi Honganji's are quite close. The station itself is a tourist attraction and the architecture/views are very interesting. But otherwise it isn't really a 'walking neighborhood'. |
I don't understand why you are restricting yourself to those two hotels.
