Wow! Ok, sorry I didn¡¦t post for awhile. Before I continue with my report, just a few comments about a few of the posting before this one:

Ht, yes, my ears were ringing, I am just in awe that I was the subject of your conversation with Linda. Must have been a slow night. Lol. Btw, I was sweating hnl customs, as I was bringing in thai chili pepper, and the bird peppers. Luckily, I saw a former classmate of mine working that morning, and nodded my head up and down, like saying howzit.

No problem, I went on through. When I got home, I couldn¡¦t find the peppers, I forgot to pack them. That¡¦s what you get for packing at 3a.m. on the day of departure. I left Bangkok on Sunday, just before the airport closure on tue. Just missed a good excuse to stay over an extra week.

Carol, went to dinner with the new mr. and mrs. Orgy at sabieng down from Zanzibar. Its mostly thai food with a rather extensive menu. Almost identical rain forest setting as Zanzibar. The food was very good, and good music.

Kathie, yes, dang did cook the khanon jeen nam meow. Its absolutely delicious. Had about 3 servings. Loy krathong is quite a treat. Never saw a better display of fireworks, and of course it¡¦s a bonus viewing it from hanumans place.

Mrw, as usual, you¡¦re quite sharp in detecting the Hawaiian inflection. My being in Bangkok really only delayed the separation of fifty cents from my pocket.

Lucy, what a coincidence. Can you imagine me meeting clint in Bangkok?? He looked really thai in his cousins thai outfit that looked like pajamas. He did acknowledge that it was you who hooked him up with Bangkok. I don¡¦t know if that¡¦s good or bad? Lol.

Bob, stuck in a medical clinic. Good one. Where do you come up with such thoughts? Btw, while at the amorin plaza, I saw a kiosk that had a sign that said nana jewelry. I asked the saleslady if she knew a bob. Much to my surprise, she said no. lol.

Hanuman, now don¡¦t go spreading rumors about my hula dancing technique. I think it was the second black label over that got me in trouble. Did I do the hukilau dance?

Ok, now to continue my report. But first, let me explain my tardiness with continuing the report. I have been very busy completing phase one of my correspondence course with the ekscrunchy institute of timely trip reporting. ƒº I think I¡¦m on track for top of the class honors. Lol

I met orgy and denny(a former student of nam) at a 7-11 near victory monument, and we took a cab for the 20 min. ride to the mo chit bus terminal. There, we met up with orgys boss and his wife. His boss, v, worked in the states for many years, and spoke perfect English. He is the director of recruitment at the language school where orgy is employed. The school also has a esl certification program. Might be of interest to some of you if you ever want to settle in Bangkok, and teach English. The pay isn¡¦t bad, but you can also volunteer to teach at a few of the orphanages, such as the mercy center.

Anyway, we got a ticket on the lux bus for the 4.5 hour bus ride to phetchaboon via lopburi on route 21. As we boarded the bus, I thought to myself, that the term lux sure has a lot of room for interpretation here in Thailand. Orgy said that this was a lux bus because we each got a tiny package of sugar wafers and a bottle of water. That was ok with me, just as long it was a safe bus with a safe driver.

After 3 hours, we stopped at a large bus rest area where we could use the bathroom and have lunch. I was hungry, and the food looked good, but I didn¡¦t want to take a chance of having the bus driver make an emergency stop for me, so I passed on lunch.

We are now on our way to samo thod, the town nearest to nam¡¦s house. The bus made stops along the way, stopping at baanglaang, phutery, and vichian. In samo thod, we stayed at the phetsiam hotel. I think it¡¦s the only hotel in town. It was a nice property, with a large bed, silent cool air conditioner, and a western type toilet and a shower.

After I checked in, I went for a walk to the main part of town. There was a large market, not unlike the ones that I¡¦ve seen in Bangkok. There were vendors selling fresh meat, produce, spices, frogs, turtles, fruits, etc. What I was really looking for was a place to have dinner that night. I couldn¡¦t find any restaurants at all.

Our group has now grown to eight, as a couple from the uk and a gent from germany joined us at the hotel. They are/were students of nams. In fact, they were about a dozen of nams students or former students at the reception. Most the them were from the uk or germany. There were two gents from, of all places, Nebraska.(I thought they only traveled to Oklahoma for the football game. Lol)

At the recommendation of the hotel staff, we went into town to have dinner at a shabu shabu restaurant. Hmmm, how come I missed it? Well, because, the restaurant consisted of low folding tables, with cushions to sit on, on the sidewalk. Yes, we were literally sitting on the sidewalk in town. The food was really great, with chicken and pork, and tons of vegetable that you cook yourself in a savory broth. Only thing that was missing was the singha.

After dinner we walked backed to the hotel, totally stuffed, but not that stuffed that we couldn¡¦t buy a bag of locally grown peanuts for 10b a bag.

Next, early wake up call, and the Wedding!

Hello from Red Carpet at NRT!! Ken, good to "see" you back here on the Asia board. Keep the wedding report coming. There is nothing quite like venturing out into the Thai countryside!

Any chance you'll be back in BKK in the next three weeks?

Carol

With the gentle prodding of two fodor friends, i will continue this report, especially since it’s the end of the year, and we don’t want to have any lingering reports due.

Early wake up call at 5:30 am. A van pickup us up at 6:30am for the 30 minute ride around the mountain to nams parents home. (Nams parents farm sunflowers, sugar cane, and peanuts.) Orgy left at 5:30am. Most of the road was paved, except for the last two miles to nams home. As we approached her home, we could hear the blaring of happy thai music coming from two huge speakers.

We arrived at 7am. There was a huge tent set up in the front of the house with enough tables and chairs for 280 guests.(nearly every table was filled at the height of the reception). There was also a smaller tent on the side where all the food was prepared/being prepared for the reception. I found out that the two guys from nebraska were there from the nite before, partying with a few of the family members, and the help.

When we got there, i went into the house where the wedding ceremony was already underway. There were nine monks dressed in the usual orange robes. Orgy was in a suit, and nam was resplendid in a red thai silk dress that was form fitting, and strapless(i hope I’m, doing justice in describing her dress). They were both sitting in front of the chief monk who was talking to them in thai. Orgy sat with his legs under him, just like how the samurai would sit in front of the shogun. I can only sit that way for about 30 seconds. Orgy sat like that for about an hour.

After about half an hour, we were asked to go outside for breakfast. We had a delicious bowl of pork and winter melon soup, with rice. This is one of my favorite soups, and you can readily get it here in hi.

After breakfast, i went back into the house to continue to watch the ceremony. After about 15 minutes, nams father address the monks, probably saying thank you, and then the monks were served a very nice meal.

After the ceremony, orgy and nam moved to the side of the room where they sat, and the guests would pour water over their hands. This symbolizes the hope that their new lives together will flow as easily as the water flows.

After this, we all went outside to our tables, and started to put a dent in the bottle of thai whiskey that was on each table. When i say we, I’m talking about the dozen or so students of nams(mostly from uk, and germany). I had brought a bottle of chivas, so the gang at our table helped to consume the bottle. It was now around 9:30am and it was getting hot under the tent. I only had a couple of drinks, as i didn’t want to be wobbly walking in the grooms parade with orgy. Unfortunately, or fortunately for me, the parade was a mere twenty feet, from the reception area back into the house.

After we got into the house, orgy and nam sat again on the side of the room, and this time, we tied a string around the right wrist of orgy and nam. I think this symbolized their union. They also were wearing a cap with a string tied to the top of each cap.

After this ceremony, we then went back to the table for some serious celebration. We were first served a tray of 5 different appetizers, which included toasted bread with shrimp paste, shu mai dim sum, a vegetable dish, and thai sausage. We then had a thai vegetable salad, steamed fish that was served on a metal tray with a can of heat under the tray to keep the fish warm. Then we had braised pork knuckle in soy sauce(just like you see in every food court in all the malls), and fried rice.

After about 45 minutes, orgy and nam appeared and were thanking the guests at each table, and taking photos with each guest. They both looked vibrant, and very happy. It was a nice and happy occasion.

It was now around 11am, two empty bottles, nearly all the food was gone, and getting hotter under the tent. Add those things together, and the result is..... time for a nap. The first van was leaving at 11:30 to go back to victory monument, and i was able to get on the first van.

we all bid adieu to the happy couple, and boarded the van for the four hour trip back. The trip back would normally take about four and a half to five hours, but the driver went to the same speed driving class as the taxi driver that took me to my hotel when i first arrived, so we made it in record time.

I got back to my hotel around four, totally exhausted, and relieved that i didn’t mess up my duties as orgys best man(protector). Took a short nap, then went into the cool bangkok night.

ht, maybe the big kahuna up stairs thought i was making the story up, so he decided to pull the plug. lol.

i guess you got back safely, like we did. loved gazen, would like to go back again.

kathie, interesting comment about fodor history. sort of relates to lucys comments about the possibility of this being the first time a fodorite being the best man at another fodorites wedding. hmmm.

i do believe the cordial, friendly, and sincere posters on this board contributed to the fostering of the friendship that i have developed with orgy, and of course, the other friendships that i have developed over the past few years, with most of you here. i'm so lucky.

orgy was the first fodorite i met, and we have always had a gtg everytime i've visited bangkok.

bob, he always asked about you when i see him, and i always tell him that you are steaming as before.(note that i said steaming, not scamming.lol)

i will do my best to make him aware of this thread, and all the good wishes for his and nams happiness posted here, and ask him to respond to this thread.

i do note the eerie silence of the a-a-l. hopefully he is not on the cray determining the consequence of this tardy report. .

Ken, I think it's wonderful how many friendships the Asia board has fostered. I really value the friendships I've developed here. I feel like we've created a community of like-minded travelers.
