When I was shopping in Bangkok back in Dec/Jan on my holiday trip, I reported back about some silk scarves I bought that had semi-precious stones "built in" that looked like necklaces. You asked if I had pictures of them.

I just discovered a web site that has them!!! Take a look at

And yes, where exactly did you buy yours?

I bought them at the weekend market in Bangkok! Maeng and I were on our way from the market to JJ Mall. We took an aisle that we'd never been down before!

Kristina, I've not picked one out for myself; but I've certainly tried them on. They really look nice! The are not uncomfortable either. I thought they might feel heavy on the neck but such is not the case.

I'm glad I found that site so that I could share what they look like. I bought some that are not exactly like these because they have an extra bauble hanging from the stones (i.e. a large chunk of turquoise, a row of seashells, or an amethyse flower). They are certainly unique!

I'm looking at my Nancy Chandler map of Chatuchak. I "think" the scarves are located somewhere in the part called Jatujak Plaza. It's at the top left of the map, near the big "Chatuchak Weekend Market Area" title on the map. You will note JJ Mall just to the right of this section. I'm sorry I don't know which aisle we managed to wander down. But at least this gives you guys who want to know WHERE a better idea. Sorry I can't tell you the exact soi/stall number. But it's in the "pinkish" part, not the blue part with pets/stuff.

It isn't too hot if you go there in December/January. It's actually quite pleasant! I know you find that hard to believe... but it's true. Maeng and I spent most of the day at the weekend market (from about 10 until after 2). Granted, we go over to JJ MALL for a break and something to eat/drink in the air con. But Dec/Jan is totally different from going to the market in, say, April or May when it's really steamy.

so carol in dec/jan humidity is down to only 110%?

Humidity is waaaaay down in December/January. I'm not sure what percentage it is. I just know that 83 to 85 degrees in the daytime, and no rain, is extremely pleasant!!! You really should try it sometime.

Bob, when we were there in Dec 07, I was amazed at how nice the weather was, especially in the mornings. However, the afternoon we spent at the weekend market was almost unbearable, even in December. I'm sure July will be even worse.

each time i have been to the weekend market (which i LOVE) its always first thing and out by lunchtime.....
Bob i know you hate it but there are some great little bars (especially along soi 26) for a cool pit stop.... Even Muffin enjoyed it

What's on the web site is pretty much what I had to pay. Like I said in the original thread from BKK, I paid more for them than for anything else I've purchased in BKK. It was a "trial" purchase. I only bought 6 (plus I picked out some matching earrings for each one). We shall see what happens. So far, there is quite a bit of interest. I'll maybe go to e-Bay with them in another month if no one picks up any of them by then. The price is "high" for my small mid-western town. Shoppers are not used to seeing something this unique! We are a shrinking town; it used to be manufacturing but that's all but gone. Our biggest employer is the railroad.

In November, I bought one of those scarf/nacklaces in a store in Oriental Place...we were picking up my clothes from Cotton House and I wandered in and saw them. I haven't actually worn it yet. I;m not sure whether to wear the necklace part in the front and tie the scarf in the back or to tie it on the side in a bow. The name of the store is January and it was 650baht. If I recall correctly, there were two sizes.

maybe if i wore one of those scarfs to the market i would feel cooler, until they started to stone me....

i have been in thailand in both december and late january and i still find it hot...

I don't know what to tell you, Bob. For me, the weather in BKK in Dec/Jan is fabulous!!!
