Krabi, Phuket, Ko Pi Pi late March through April
 

We're planning our honeymoon over 3-4 weeks in Thailand and would really like to visit Krabi, Phuket and Ko Pi Pi but I understand that's the beginning of the monsoon season in the West side of Southern Thailand.

Can anyone shed some light on that? Should be plan a different trip? Or is it possible that its just the early part of the season so we could luck out and get to hang on the beach without monsoon rain?

I'd like to got to Chiang Mai too but understand that's also the burning season so not a good time to travel there. Thoughts?

Late March, early April shouldn't be too bad in terms of rain in the Phuket area. Where else do you plan to go in your 3-4 weeks? As Bob says, April is the hottest month in Thailand.

We were planning to pretty well beach-out the whole time we are there.

I thought we'd do the Krabi/Ko phi phi thing for 1-2 weeks, (i'd like to go spend time in Khao Sok national park)and then hit the west coast on the gulf side in Ko Samui and the surrounding area for another 1-2 weeks.

I'd love to do Chiang Mai but worry about the burning season.

Should we add a week in Cambodia maybe?

Knowing that its the hottest time of year I was planning to be in or close to water most of the time.

We were in Chiang Rai area week before last and the burning season had already started with scattered fires seen in the area. It was pretty bad where the burning was going on. One town we drove thru was completely filled with smoke. And some areas had gray skies from smoke. So I would agree to avoid NThailand during their slash and burn season.FC

Some time in Cambodia to visit the temples at Angkor would a a wonderful experience and a good contrast with beach time.

I'd suggest you choose one area for your beach time, either the Andaman Sea side or the Gulf of Thailand side. You want time to enjoy the beach and not spend too much of your time getting from one place to another.

Also consider other areas of SE Asia, such Bali.
