krabi or koh samui?

Hi,
I'm planning a 'beach relax-getaway' this Dec. Am looking at Krabi or Koh Samui. Which is better? Heard that Koh Samui is full of mosquitoes. Any recc. on hotel in Krabi or Koh Samui? Looking at moderate price with easy access to beach and night life. Don't want to be couped in hotel all night. Gotta be clean and relatively modern too. Not much of a sightseer, mostly looking forward to relaxing at the beach or a nice hotel pool, tanning. thanks.
p/s: queries on hkg welcome!

Mosquitoes are pretty difficult to avoid n the tropics unless you're up in the mountains or out at sea.... just get a good mosquito repellent (oily is usually better).
Krabi usually has better weather than Koh Samui during December. You will probably find somewhere like Ao Nang suits you but it depends on what you mean by moderate price. You can get hotel rooms for about 3-4000 Baht with good beach access and a pool. That said, you should look at booking now because that is peak season..... Golden Buddha Beach might suit you. (it comes up in most searches.....)
If you want something a lot cheaper than that... less than 2,000 Baht (i.e. less than 50 US Dollars), then Samui will suit you better - there's a good range and it is low season for Samui. Chaweng probably has what you are looking for.....

just got back from koh samui on sunday. we stayed at the Long Island Resort on Lamai Beach. It was in a relatively uncrowded area(nice pool). i did not think that mosquitoes were a big problem at this resort. I did get bite by ants nearby at the jungle park eating dinner. Some of the beaches can be a little rocky though. Cheweng has lots more bars than lamai, but a slightly more spring break feel. Krabi is supposed to be nice, but i have never been. I will definantly come back to koh samui.

we used sawadee.com to book our bungalows
2,500 baht or so for beach family suite bungalow-very nice

actually dec is the start of the high season

Josh I tried e-mailing you but your address isn't a real one.

I would love any more info on the Long Island Resort. I have looked at it on the net and it looks like very good value for the money. I have some specific questions.

Please e-mail me if you read this.

Thanks!
Koh Samui is NOT full of mosquitoes.

If you want nightlife and good beach then stay in Chaweng which is the most vibrant part of the Island.

There are many excellent hotels or bungalows along Chaweng.

John

www.SuiteAsia.com
Travel Community and Message Board
For people who love Asia
