Korean Air FF tickets

while researching use of northwest miles, i learned that korean air allows booking of FF tickets 352 days in advance....this is a longer period than the 330 or 331 days that most airlines currently allow....

this might help some of you secure tickets earlier

bob, do you know, though, if booking on korean via another carrier (continental, nw, etc.) that you must still abide by their 330 day rule, though?

filmwill Jun 6th, 2009 12:05 PM

must be a northwest/korean only thing. I just checked with continental and it's still 330 when going through them.

thanks for the tip, though...good to know!

Bob:
Can you book using the the NWA web site or do you need to go to Korean Air website? Do they have routes to BKK from the major cities in the US?

rhkkmk Jun 7th, 2009 05:35 AM

you must call N/W i believe as i do not see any korean flts on the n/w site...

the lady at n/w told me that korean's parameters call for 352 days, rather than the 330 (331) that we are used to with other carriers...

rhkkmk Jun 7th, 2009 05:38 AM

for FF bookings i always prefer to call because you can better tweak things to be exactly what you want, i.e. selecting an earlier or later connecting flight---N/W for instance allows about 2 or 3 different initial flights from boston to detroit to catch the trans-pacific flight....and sometimes i like to stop in CA or WA overnite to break up the flight and you can only do that in person...

Bob do the Korean Air flights connect out of LA to BKK? I generally dislike going thru LA as its always a zoo there.

I have FF tix on KoreanAir to Bangkok. If you are asking about flights from NYC, they go direct to Seoul and you change planes to Bangkok.

BillT Jun 7th, 2009 12:54 PM

I'm based in Houston

filmwill Jun 7th, 2009 01:34 PM

Bill, it's through LAX and, yes, our airport sucks. But if you don't mind a big layover in Seoul (maybe for some rest?) you can take a late-night flight on KE to Seoul (I think around 1 AM, if I recall correctly)...at that hour, you'd breeze through Tom Bradley as there's only 2 or 3 other flights that depart after that.

rhkkmk Jun 7th, 2009 03:48 PM

as ek says the nyc flight is direct....and on 777's...we are using them because they will take us to bali direct from incheon....the flight i want has an overnite layover in incheon which will be perfect...arr 5:30PM depart the next day 5:10PM...just enough time for a swim at the hyatt which looks out at the airport and some shopping and a decent meal or two...plus a good nites sleep....club floor is cheap too...

Korean air is part of Skyteam. I used my Delta miles you have to call since it does not show up online.

Continental as of June 19 is part of Star Alliance, with many other great SEA carriers.

Since my planning is usually spur of the moment don't know how many days in advance you need with Star Alliance.

filmwill Jun 8th, 2009 07:14 AM

June 19th? I always heard they joined Star Alliance in mid- to late-October.

rhkkmk Jun 8th, 2009 07:44 AM

i think you are right film....the partnership with sky ends in october, '09....maybe you can do things as of june with star??

Nywoman Jun 8th, 2009 02:18 PM

My mistake they announced it June 19, 2008.

Rather than cutting and pasting this is the site. Lots of fine print.

The best is probably calling them to find out where you stand.
