P.S Don't rush down the coast or you will miss some great places. Koh Talu near Bang Saphan ( Baan Krud Railway station ) is fabulous. Good snorkeling, laid back beach accommodation, it's about 2 hours past Hua Hin. You can take buses or local trains and then you get the boat to Koh Tao from Chumpon. Boat prices range from B 400 to B 800 for the Jet-Foil.

Just got back from a week in Koh Tao -Budget accommodations are plentiful (around $5/night)
We stayed at Viewpoint – overlooking the ocean – good food, but rustic. When you arrive, you will find numerous places – it has to do more with location on the island than anything, And, this place is a diving island – so if you plan to scuba dive, you can also get some discounts. If you want to a little nicer digs (on great beach) try Sensei Paradise – near the main town and you can find a room starting at $10-20 per night.

Be prepared for the island to have a bit of rough feeling to it - lots of tourists - some areas are wonderful and at the same time they have not found a way to deal with trash. A bit of a disappointment.

I agree is ;ovely place but they need to clean it up or it will go the same way as Phuket. But still worth the trip, stop at Chumphon on the way down, relaxing nice little town.
