Koh Samui weather February
 

According to what I have read in this forum, the weather on the East Coast is rainy during early February and that the West Coast is the place to be.

However, according to my research(including a post I saw here quoting numbers) there is little rain then.

So... what is the weather like on the East Coast then? and where am I getting confused?!

It is not the situation that Samui has bad weather in February it is far more a situation that 'Novermber to about end April is the 'best time for weather' down south, but that does not mean Samui weather is bad.

Because the south has a rainy season roughly May thru october a great deal is made of great weather outside of that time, but that does not mean that weather elsewhere is not also good.

Although the weekedn weather in Phuket was fine there was some light rain Friday evening and it was a little hazy late afternoon Saturday.

There was a short period of some bad weather in the Gulf a week or so back but yesterday and today it is solid sunshine as so it was in Phuket yesterday.

Maybe another way to say the same: More people head south during this time as it's good weather but if you look you can see Gulf area weather Feb/Mar is fine also.

The rain fall stats from JamesA are the ones that I had seen earlier and seem to show that rain is not a big problem in Samui nor Phuket in February.

However it is sometimes said when talking about Samui vs. Phuket on this forum that as a general rule of thumb, when the weather is good on one coast, it is generally poor on the other.

This is where I am getting a little confused. It seems fine to me in both places in February!!

More people head to places like Phuket, krabi, Khao Lak, Koh Lanta etc between November and April roughly as that is the time to go there for good weather, that 'trend' tends somewhat to overshadow that there is still good weather elsewhere, though October is a tricky month everywhere and Nov into Dec can be not good around Samui and Koh Tao etc.

The area around Samui has three seasons.The warm and dry season from Feb to May, the rainy season from the end of Sept. till Nov , and the 'cool' season which runs from Oct till Jan. Best season for Samui is from December to June.

adwinn, I expect the statement that "as a general rule of thumb, when the weather is good on one coast, it is generally poor on the other" is confusing you. WHile it is a fine rule of thumb, there are times of teh year when both places have fine weather. That's why I recommend people look at the weather sites.

By the way, weatherbase has data on temps (hi, low average) rainfall, number of rainy days, etc, based on years of data for each location.

wunderground has maps and current weather conditions. (Leigh, does it also have historical weather info? if so, I've not been able to find it there.)

Hi Kathie, yes wunderground does have wonderful historical records. Very easy to find.
First pick a country....then a town, city or area, ......Then go to history and almanac.......where you can see weather conditions for any given day for the last ten years.
