Ko Tao resort

We are planning the Thai section of our September trip and it It looks pretty much like we are looking tto stay at KO TAO RESORT.
Anyone been there?

What would you suggest as the best method of transport from BKK to KO TAO ?

I realise its some way from BKK.
Am currently studying but hoping for 1st hand experiences.

Thanks

I have been diving in KT twice and travelled by different routes both times. The first time was to fly to Koh Samui and then get the speedboat to KT. As I recall the flights to KS are expensive because of the Bangkok Airways monopoly, plus you would probably have to stay o/n on KS. The speedboat ride was VERY rough as I recall!

The second time we drove to Chumpon (south of Hua Hin), stayed o/n and got the ferry across the next day.I think it is alos possible by train and certainly by bus. The ferry journey was pleasant enough and I thing it took a couple of hours. I imagine this would be the least expensive option in terms of both transport and accomodation.

Depending upon your travel plans, it may make senses to go one way and return the other.

Koh Tao Resort looks nice. I usually stay at Utopia Suites, which is not fancy but a short walk to the pier where the boat ties up.

The "cheap" way to get to Koh Tao from Bangkok is a bus/boat combination from Lompraya. Bus departs Bangkok in the evening, arrives at Chumpon the next morning, and from there you take a boat to Koh Tao.

The "expensive" way is to fly to Samui, and take the boat from there to Koh Tao. There are several fast ferry services from Samui to Koh Tao. Lompraya and Sea Trans are the two I can think of. Note that all ferries from Samui to Koh Tao stop at Koh Phangan. Note that it can be tricky to fly into Samui in time to get a boat the same day. I almost always plan on a night in Samui before catching the boat.

We have stayed at Ko Tao Resort - and of all the places we have stayed in Thailand it is the one place I would not recommend!! Some of the staff was nice but that is about the only thing I could say in its favour. The pool was filthy and the room we had - which was one of the more expensive beachfront rooms - was very over priced for what it was. We picked it because it had a pool and we thought our 2 year old would like that but we left after 2 nights. The restaurant also had dirty tablecloths, so lots of flies although my husband says the green curry was really good! I really wouldn't stay there. Friends have recommended to us Charm Churee and Sensi Paradise for our next visit. In the past we have stayed at Sairee Hut and I would stay there in preference to Ko Tao Resort.
