Ko Samui or Phuket?

Spending the las leg of our 6 week trip to OZ in Thailand.Planning on flying to Ko Samui for 4 days and flying back to Bankok for the last night. My husband and children 7 & 9 have never been, although I went backpacking ther3 13 years ago. Any tips would be great as I heard Phuket would be better for the family. I didn't go myself when I was there as I was told it was too touristy. I spend time in Chaing Mai, Ko Samui and Bankok.

Which place to go depends a lot on when you are traveling, as the two places have different rainy seasons. There are busy "touristy" places on both islands as well as quieter, more isolated places on both islands.

Kathie - since I'm re-thinking my Cambodia beach destination....is Phuket better for Dec/Jan?

We arrive in Bangkok Jan 10, 2008 on an island until Jan 14th. Bangkok for the last night. Any hotel suggestions for Ko Samui or Bangkok?

Grc, Yes, the Phuket side is better that time of the year. Remember, you can consider Phuket, Krabi, Koh Lak in that area, or you cam consider Hua Hin, which is a 2.5 hour drive from Bangkok. You will find better accommodations and infrastructure in Thailand than in Cambodia. I'd suggest you take a look at www.sawadee.com and see what interests you. I often use that website to book hotels in Thailand. Prices typically include tax, service and breakfast.

van, if you give us a price range for your hotel we can make some suggestions. I'd suggest you also peruse the hotels at sawadee
