Kiteboarding, Phuket and Koh Samui - 5 Star and Bungalow Choices
Hi everyone,
My husband and I are taking a second honeymoon to celebrate our 10th anniversary. We'll be visiting Thailand in mid-late October, and we're looking at beach options. We want to visit both Koh Samui and Phuket, splitting 6 nights between the two beaches. My husband wants to take a kiteboarding class in Koh Samui for 3 days. I want to stay in a nice bungalow, and also a nice, full-service 5-start resort. We would like to pay under $200US a night.
The beach itself is also very important, as I'll be lounging and having drinks brought out while he's kiteboarding.
Any of your suggestions would be much appreciated, including which town to visit first, expected rainfall amounts, etc.

Scratch the Samui, hubby tells me it's kiteboarding in Hua Hin, not Koh Samui. So that changes things quite a bit.
I'm looking at the Laguna resorts in Phuket, or the Meridien Beach resort. Are there any good bungalows in Hua Hin we might enjoy? Thanks again, Holly.

The main kiteboarding school, run by a couple of Americans, is very close by to my beach house in Hua Hin. I don't think that there are any bungalows around the main stretch of Hua Hin beach, all private homes, condos and hotels. October is not the best month for kiteboarding - I think February is best with a strong prevailing wind all day.
Try the Hyatt in Hua Hin I think you'll find most of the thing you're looking for there.
Phuket, Meridian is situated by itself whereas the Laguna is in a gated area with 3 or 4 other hotels. October is not the prime month for Phuket but you can still get lucky weather wise.
I would just do one beach town and spend the rest of my time some where else.

It is just opening in October and the rates for the first 2 months are a fraction of what they will be afterward. A little more than you wanted to spend ($325 for a private pool villa but it will be $675 after that.) I wish I could go by then!!

Have you noticed the Sofitel Central Village? It appears to be quite close to the kiteboarding shop. I'll check the Hyatt, too. The Sofitel offered bungalows, though. I know we'll be taking chances with the weather in both places.

The Central Village is situated near the Central Sofitel Hotel and I would say that it is not a very good location. I consider the place to be in town and will be sort of crowded on the beach. Sometime the water quality around Hua Hin town is not that great and you might find it better to be a little bit further away from Town.
If you did stay at the "Village" then it will be something like a half an hour walk, on the beach, to the Kiteboard school that I mentioned. Perhaps there's another school in town that is closer to the Village but I'm not really sure.
