I went to a flea market in Kyoto many years ago but I don't remember if it's the same one. I like japanese designs so i was having a good time. I bought several obis-the kimono sash; I use them as runners. I also bought an antique kimono and a new (not used) japenese style tunic made from japanese material and some beautiful fabric which I still don't know what to do with. I saw nice pottery there, not necessarily antique. I wouldn't pay high prices even if they claimd to be genuine antique. With this economy, you might be able bargains there. Have fun.

I love that idea of using a kimono sash as a runner, hope you don't mind if I borrow it.

They make nice wall hangings in stairwells as well.

Is the Kitano Tanmangu the one near Kyoto station? It's a fun one, if so.

If you don't mind me asking, how much does an obi generally sell for? And do people generally bargain/haggle in Japan, or is the price as posted?

in Japan there are always 2 prices at least. First you ask how much it is, then react like its a fair price, then ask how much for the 2nd price while grinning. The shop keeper will usually chuckle and go down about 20%. It is a good way for them to anticipate the bargain hunters
