Thanks rhk & mebe, no just in the U.s. and 2 shops in Italy for now. We just launched a year ago this month.
As far as a knife is concerned I kept thinking of Robin saying she could take them in a fight!

We arrived in Bali on 21 April at around 7pm. usually I would have Made pick me up at the airport because I always stay in Ubud the entire time but this timeI thought I may want to stay at the beach. We got a ridiculous rate of 54 US p/ night at the Mecure Sanur, so booked it for 6 nights, Robin would be leaving back to the States after only 3 nights. The taxi from airport to sanure wsa 95,000 R.

The hotel grounds are beautiful, awesome pools, rooms are ok. I have never stayed at a resort on Bali so this was different. They have a free shuttle on the hour to and from Hardy's dept. store in town central of Sanur. The hotel is about a 15 minute walk from town right on the beach. Those first days were very busy with biz stuff, so we were hardly there. Th, Fri, & Sat. we were running around all day trying to get stuff done while Robin was still in town which was not easy because my cold was full fledged by then and my ears still hadn't popped, I had not had time to rest it out which is what you really need for a cold. It wasn't until Sunday the 25th, the morning Robin took off that I was finally able to just chill at the pool and sleep away most of the day which was excatly what I needed!

Our first night we arrived after we checked in we went across the street to the to the small cafe that faces teh Mecure. Really cute and good food with good prices. While we were waiting for our food we kept hearing an animal sound but couldn't place it. I called over the waitress and asked her if it was a gekko or a frog. She said no, it's the bat. The bat?, There are bats? OMG where? She said over there and pointed to a large tree on the restaurant grounds in their driveway. Wait, the bat is in the tree? She said yes, he lives in the tree, he has a broken wing since he was a baby, he is 15 years old, we take care of him. Well, we had to go look and as we got closer we both jumped back because this bat was the size of a cat! I have never seen such a large bat! The bat eats Papaya and otehr fruit. The girl took a piece of papaya and hand fed it to that bat. He gently took it with his mouth curled half way up to eat the fruit. She said he makes that noise when he wants fruit. The bat's name is Robin!! We thought that was the funniest part of all.

We got back to the room to find a big frog in the bathroom. We laughed the entire 10 minutes it took us to usher him out and just when we thought it was safe, from the corner of my eye another, jumping around by the sliding glass doors. I would have a frog encounter everyday in my room at the Mecure. I hear they are good luck

I had decided during my stay in Sanur which aptly lives up to it's nickname of snore, it just wasn't for me. So, I called Adi Cottage in Ubud and let them know I would be staying there for the next three weeks. I would arrive on Tues. the 27th. My usual room the junior suite which I pay 55 a night for on long stays was booked, so I took a superior double, first floor right off the pool for 40 p/ night. The rooms are simple, but clean and bed is comfortable, there is a lovely small pool, breakfast included and free wifi. Plus they know me there and the people that work there have become my friends, We stay in touch regularly when I'm not there.

I was much happier in Ubud. I have my haunts that I like to hang out at, where they now know me by name as well as the massage places I like to go to and the hair salon where I get my color done. When you are alone for weeks it's nice to stay somewhere where you feel comfortable plus my driver Made lives there and I have become quite close with him and his family.

Sometime last spring thru Facebook I got in touch with an old friend. She actually is the best childhood friends of one of my closest colege buddies. We all used to hang out in our 20's when we all lived in NYC. We had lost touch when I left NY the first time in 91. I had seen her a few times in the following years but last time was about 16 years ago.

She had been an editor of some sort for Elle, a real city girl. One day she decides to up and join the peace corps and was stationed in Nepal. After her peace corp contract was up she got a job doing PR for a luxery hotel chain there and remained in Nepal for 7 years. After that she relocated to BKK for about 2 years again doing PR work. There she met her husband an American who does furniture import. He had been living btwn the States and Bali for quite sometime.Turns out she has been living in Ubud for the past 5 years!! It is a ridiculously small world! I toldher I would be in Ubud for a month Nov/Dec 09. and when I arrived on the last trip I gave her a call, afterall I had brought an entire suitcase of stuff from the States that she emailed beforehand from marshmellows to childrens books.

laartista, I can't see the photos... Were doing great and Kevin says Hi. We just spent some time in Campeche and Merida, Mexico in March and planning a trip to Laos/Burma sometime in December. As for your TR, I knew you would cave in and head back to Ubud. I totally agree about Sanurzzzz.

Thanx amarena

12 hours after I returned my cat of 13 years suddenly passed away and to be honest haven't felt much like writing, especially since I feel guilty about being away so long just before his death.

Oh, no... I'm so sorry. And I completely understand. One of my two dogs passed away in February. She had just turned 13 in December. I'm still trying to get over it. I can understand you feeling guilty, but I hope you find some comfort that you were there at the end, when he really needed you.

We are headed back to Bali and Thailand in August, so I'm spending any free-time happily reading trip reports. I found your other Bali one from last year, and it's great, too. You are a lucky woman, living in one my 2 favorite places on earth and being able to spend time for work in the other. They are 2 places which I think strive to make the world a more beautiful place.

So sorry about your cat. When you feel up to it, would love to hear more about which massage place you like and where you enjoy hanging out. We're going back for the 4th time in Sept. and I'm always interested in new places to explore in Ubud.

Oh my God, Andrea - for whatever it's worth, my deepest sympathy on the loss of your BearCat. I had only found your thread on moving to Florence late yesterday afternoon and read it through and commented on your upcoming move, thinking BearCat would once again be moving to Italy with you. He is probably more well known around the world - and his antics will be sorely missed by all those people who also feel they knew him - than any other pet. He has been beautifully memorialized on this site. The pawprint cast is a wonderful idea and I'm hoping you can incorporate it with his urn. We all (here at home) find a reconnection with our dearly loved and sorely missed Buffy Dooley Dog every time we pass her spot in our garden, which is marked with a largish stone with bronze heart and her engraved photo on it, surrounded by a memorial garden for her. Your parents have a pet shelf; maybe in your new apartment there will be a spot in the sun for a similar place for BearCat and his pawprint, so he can still soak up the afternoon sun...
