I have used India travelite www dot indiatravelite dot com in the past.

We did a houseboat-Taj Kumarokam package for 4 days and I was pretty happy with their pricing and promptness. That was back in 2003 though.

Not sure how they are now, but worth a try.

I have not taken any packaged tours of kerala but have stayed in most of the properties belonging to The Casino Group of hotels.
This site could be of help as far as packages are concerned:
http://www.keralatourpackages.com/
The Casino group site:
http://www.casinogroupkerala.com/html/casino_hotel.html
They have a travel desk from whom you could enquire.Hope its helpful.Happy planning.

I am also starting to research a South India trip including Kerala for 2008. I will post after I get do a little more homework.

Harsha, have you been to the Marai Resort. We are thinking that would be a good destination to end a month trip.

Thanks in advance
Sally

Harsha,
Thanks for the feedback on the Marari beach resort. Also the websites for Kerala. The backwaters along with the Marari resort look like a perfect place for us to end our South India trip.

We are considering a few days in Kerala, hopping over from Sri Lanka. We realize it is a bit of a drive from Trivandum where our flight arrives to the Marari. After reading the reviews on Tripadvisor.com though, it sounds like the ideal place to experience Kerala. Do you think we could just stay here and take a day cruise of the backwaters and do a day trip to Cochin as a way of experiencing Kerala?

I recently traveled to India and booked my tour through I Tour India. They offered me an "All Inclusive" All India Tour Package at an affordable price. I guess they have separate North India and South India Tours. Me and my wife are very frequent travelers and from my experience, I've never seen a Tour Operator like I Tour India who is so professional and perfect. They took care of everything for us including the Visa, Flight, Stay, food, Tour, Entertainment and what not.

Their web site is http://www.itourindia.com
Their Phone from US : 1 877 I C INDIA

Check them out.

Gee, travel54, only two posts and they both promote the same company. No advertising is allowed on this site. Please go away.

To Travel54:
Yes, and you think we are stupid here. Like Kathy said, you only posted twice in the forums and only to advertise. Glad you did it anyway, if I come across your company at the internet I know that it's not reliable in advance.

Craig,
We are planning on combining the Kumarakom Lake resort for the backwaters with the Marari to explore local villages. I do not know if it is realistic to do it all from the Marari Beach resort.

I would email CGHearth and ask about excurions from the Marari. Or hopefully someone who has been to kerala will chime in.

Craig & Sally its doable. The only thing is you'll probably have to fly to Cochin from Trivandrum to save time.Marari is just 45min drive south of Cochin.
Though Marari Beach Resort is complete in itself, for a 'Kerala experience',
its pretty close to Allepey where you could go for the backwater cruise.

The town of Alapuzha (also known as Allepey), is sometimes refered to as the "Venice of the East" for its large network of canals that meander through the town. The Vallam Kali (the Snake Boat Race) held every year in August is a major attraction.
The other place which skipped mind is Kayaloram, which is about 15 mins by boat from Allepey.I've stayed at this resort & was one of the best experiences of Kerala I've ever had.Its a little secret I'll want to share with all of you.Check this site out:www.kayaloram.com
Kumarakom Lake resort is on the other side of the Vembanad lake. Its about 75kms from Cochin & near Kottayam.

I find it rude to profit from other people's posts without asking permission to post questions of their own.
I put this post to ask for advise on companies for tours in Kerala and it seems it turned out on replies to the Marari Resort....
Just a question, why intrude other's posts? Is so difficult to post YOUR own with YOUR own questions...????

I am sorry Tere if I distracted from your post. I thought you got some good infromation and keeping the post alive helps all to share information. I hope someone can give you a good agency. You will have a great time with your daughter. I spendt 3 weeks with my daughter in Nov. 05 in N. India and we are still keeping the memories alive.

Teresa - I guess I am guilty as charged. However, having been a regular contributor on the Asia board since the year 2000, I have seen threads go off topic many times. If I had been the OP on this thread, I would have been happy that others in the Fodors community were considering a trip to the same destination as I was. After all, the whole idea of an open forum is to share information. Sorry for the lecture - if you had posted that comment on the Europe board, I bet you would have been seriously flamed...

Sally, that's ok but no, until now no one advised me on a good agency. Anyway I will look for them myself.

Craig, I am not a selfish person and I don't want to be the only one to go to Kerala for sure. But the places you mentioned had nothing to do with the places I want to go or my question and it distracted others from it, that's all.

And don't worry about being flamed by others. I am entitled to my own opinions and to write what I think. Being in my 50s I no longer tolerate some things neither do I worry about what others say. As long as I know I am right. Thanks.

Teresa, I truly think someone browsing this forum that had actually used a Kerala tour company would answer your question regardless of whether the thread contained unrelated posts. I find people will often post an answer to an OP's question without even bothering to read all of the other posts.
