Keang Krachan National Park??
 

Has anyone been to the Keang Krachan National Park? If so can you tell me if it's worth going, and whether or not to stay overnight in the park / where to stay? Am going to Cha-Am / Hua Hin in a couple of weeks and would love to get some feedback....

You can overnight in the park and that has the benefit of the nice mornings, or, there are day trips from Hua Hin and Cha Am.

My own opinion is do a day trip that includes English speaking guide, that way you can appreciate it.

There is also Sam Roi Yot National Park which is south of Hua Hin and it goes along the coast, very different indeed. If you are interested in nature do both, as quite different.

Boathouse is incorrectly named - it should be houseboat. THe accommodation consists of old river boats that have been transplanted and converted.

Quite pleasant with the usual plethora of things that either don't work or need attention.
THe internet connection is very basic as they have no ADSL line there.

Entrance to the national park is 200 baht for foreigners. However a notice at the main visitor information centre says that holders of a Thai drivers licence will be admitted at the "Thai" rate - about 40 baht. THis discount is NOT available the Ban Krang to Panoen Thung entrance.

If you want to drive up to Panoen, you'll need 4WD and a timed one way system runs between Ban Krang and Panoen Thung. ..... well worth the drive though.

Probably the best time to visit the camps in the mountains is November/ December - from the top you can look down on a blanket of cloud beneath. Even later in the year the climate is relatively cool.

This organisation has spent years rescuing animals injured or persecuted in their natural environment and wherever possible returning them to the wild.

Currently they are being devastated by a series of raids by the department of National Parks. These raids started shortly after foundation main man Edwin Weik exposed park officials complicity in the exploitation of elephants in National parks........

These raids are carried out by people with little no knowledge of the wildlife they are handling and they do not even seem to have anywhere in mind to relocate the animals.

In Thailand the laws for any enterprise, whether a corner-shop or a major factory are so complicated and unenforceable that it isn’t hard for anyone with a grudge to find some breach of regulation to use against someone. In the case of WFFT it would seem this is a case of paperwork being used to settle a personal score at the expense of the animals, which are ruthlessly being transferred from the care of experts to idiots.

If you’re in the area why not check this place out - it isn’t a zoo, but a serious conservation attempt run on a shoestring.
