Kathmandu Budget Hotels

Hi.

I am looking for recommendations of budget hotels in Kathmandu? I read something about hotels in Thamel? I will be in the area for 3-4 days.

Thanks.

Thamel is full of guesthouses. Take a look at the Thorntree forum, as there are always questions about guesthouses and prices. You should be able to negotiate a good price. You can find guesthouses that range from $10 per night and up. If you want something a bit plusher, there are some hotels in Thamel as well. Tracy recently reported on the Courtyard hotel in Thamel.

Note that Thamel is very noisy, so you'll want a room that doesn't face the street.

Hi, i just stayed at the Courtyard hotel..it is just outside of Thamel in a quiet area..It is very nice and friendly and i do believe u can get a standard room for quite cheap. A deluxe suite was $75.00...i know the other rooms were way cheaper.

There are sooooo many budget hotels in Thamel, but i did not actually visit any but as Kathie said u may not wanna face the street...

Is it better to stay in Kathmandu or in Thamel?

Thamel is in Kathmandu - it's just a neighborhood.

Thamel is full of other travelers - which may be an advantage or a disadvantage.

Another place with guesthouses is Freak Street, just off the Durbar Square in Kathmandu. There are also a number of hotels on the Durbar Marg in Kathmandu. We stayed at the Hyatt in Bouda, just outside Kathmandu and in the area of the Boudnath Stupa. While the Hyatt is expensive, I know there are a number of guesthouses in the area.

It really depends on what you want to do in the Kathmandu area.

I like staying near Thamel, it was fun to walk around and stop in all the shops and restaurants..however it is very busy and would probably become manotinous after several days..but we enjoyed it..There are certainly lotsa other travellers around...

I stayed in Nature hotel (on net) when it was so new that they were still finishing it up. It shows $35 night now & is a good buy - in Thamel. I thnk you ought to try Kathmandu Guest house 1st as it is the place to be in Kth - so many diff rates and rooms, perfect location, great cafe outside full of interesting people (many mountaineers in season). I have not stayed there but will next time as it seems heavy w/charm & character.
