Kathmandu and EBC trek in earthquake aftermath

I just returned from Nepal, after visiting Kathmandu and trekking to the Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar, right during the earthquakes.
Check out my full trip report at: http://bonatravels.com/2015/05/19/co...summary-nepal/

Thanks for your report. I'm glad you were able to trek safely.

I hope the Nepali people will get the help they need to rebuild their lives. I agree that a return of tourists is important in this process.

This is a good current thread [one of many] from TA, which addresses the difficult balancing act about tourists returning...

Reply #7 in the above links to another v.good thread on Lonely Planet, particularly the posting by Joe (LP Staff).

Thank you for your post--thought provoking and helpful in my own thinking about our planned November trip.

can I add my thanks for your informative and sensitive report?

There is absolutely no chance that I will ever make it to EBC which is why I enjoy the accounts of those who have.

Good for you for persisting with your trip despite all the indications to the contrary - as you say the area will be desperately in need of tourists in the coming months.

Good luck with your next trip.

Interesting, thought provoking article from yesterday's Kathmandu Post...

There should be plenty of rebuilding projects for locals to he employed on.

Tourists are fine, so long as they aren't of the rubber-necking, voyeuristic variety. All they do is get in the way, and eat and drink stuff that the locals are being routinely deprived of.
