My wife and I are planning atrip to Thailand(we are both in 50's) and looking at a side trip to Kathmandu. Plan to spend 5 days there. Will it be too much to go on 3 hour treks (Included in a day tour) or stay in Dhulikel Mountain Resort. Any avice appreciated

Much depends on what time of the year you are going to Kathmandu. Also, 5 days is not enough to do justice to such an interesting country as Nepal. Anyway, that said, it is not much to go on these 3-hr treks provided, of course, that you are not totally out of shape. Also, if you are visiting Nepal in Oct/Nov it would be a shame to miss Pokhara. The view of the Annapurna range is magical; something you won't experience in either Kathmandu or Dhulikel. In Kathmandu valley, one can spend a whole day wandering the alleyways of Bakhtapur. And, if you are into Hindu/Buddhist art, a walk/drive up to Changu Naryan is a treat! Namaste!

Hi, Peter. According to an agency who specialises in Nepal trekking trips, many of the treks are footpaths linking villages in the mountains. There are treks graded from easy, moderate to tough (depending on the altitude & terrain) as an indication to trekkers. Generally, if you enjoy walking, going for an easy trek should not be too tough a task! = ) <BR> <BR>Hi Louisa, there's Nepal Airlines, Thai Airways, Cathay Pacific & Singapore Airlines, I believe. No prizes for guessing which is the cheapest but you never know... maybe there'll be an airfare promotion... good luck!

Peter <BR>I chose Kathmandu and Dhulikhel for my honeymoon in early March, and i did spend 2 nights in each area. When I arrived in the area, I noticed that Pokhara is indeed should match with Kathmandu better than Dhulikhel (whole-heartedly support Thamelite), because the view of the mountain is indeed more fabulous, and just half an hour flight from KTM. <BR> <BR>Welcome to Asia, and have a wonderful trip.

Bear in mind that the Nepali who live in the hills are fit and conditioned far beyond most Westerners who're helpless without 4 wheels. These are footpaths from village to village, but I've been on many a footpath that would qualify as a semi-strenuous hike in my hometown. Just be sure you're in reasonable shape and you should do fine....
