I'd suggest two or three days in KL depending on your interests. There have been a number of excellent reports on KL here - do a search.

Sorry, I haven't seen hornbill around for a while, so don't know how you might contact her.

Kuching is a charming city. We loved just wandering. You can also arrange a trip to long houses if you want. There are quite a number of locally-owned agencies in the shophouses along the river front. This is easy to arrange once you are there.

I am have been trying hard to find a beautiful and fun place to vacation that is a good place (weather wise) to visit in August. Borneo seems to fit the bill. Thanks for much for this great report and that you added so many details!

Chicken- Thanks for bringing this to the top. We'll be going next year and Kathie's suggestions will help a lot.

We are going to Sabah, Borneo in April of 2011 and can hardly wait! I've just made deposits at three of the five places we'll be visiting, which means *it really will happen*! No backing out, now!!! Reading your trip report just totally fuels the fire of my distraction! I'm not sure how I'm going to get anything done for the next 10.5 months!

We are a family of four (two kids ages 6 and 8 at the time of travel), and will be flying from Boston. We plan 3 nights in KK, 3 nights at the Borneo Rainforest Lodge, 3 nights on the Kinabatangan, 2 nights at Sepilok, and 3 nights on Lankayan.

Our main goal is wildlife, and specifically orangutans. We've also been to Gombe Stream (before kids) to track the chimpanzees in the wild, and that was absolutely amazing, too!

Anyways -- thank you so much for your wonderful report, and for keeping up with all of these replies!!

Katie; Just to add my compliments on a freat report of what sounds like a very exciting experience. The aspect I particuly appreciate was you saw what you came to see without treekink and with limited ability to walk long distances this now gives me no excuse nit to go.
Though in some posts you have mentioned the costs i have paid for guides were high I see you spared no expense and I agree because in the end the difference of $200-$300 on a multi thousand dollar trip is peanuts.
We have wanted to dive/snorkel Sabah and now we can plan a trip to combine that with Borneo probablynot until 2012 because 2011 has been booked for 17 days in Micronesia.
Your help with our Central and Rast Java trip this past march was most appreciated.
