bon voyage

Nywoman Oct 28th, 2008 06:00 AM

Kathie,
Love your reporting so far and look forward to the real one. My appetite has been whetted (is that an English word?) for more of Asia

TracyB Oct 28th, 2008 07:56 AM

Your trip sounds fantastic..i can barely wait to get to Kathmandu!! Have a nice time in Bangkok :)

marya_ Oct 29th, 2008 02:24 PM

How wonderful the trip sounds! Happy return to Bangkok.

rhkkmk Oct 29th, 2008 05:24 PM

Lemongrass for dinner tonight??

Gpanda Oct 30th, 2008 01:18 AM

You are being drawn back to the City of Angels. It's a powerful attraction that I feel constantly.

anatoleschadenfreude Oct 30th, 2008 09:23 AM

Have spent weeks in Nepal on different trips and never found any anti-american sentiment at all. and only on $600-a-night-in-the-3rd-world-Fodors would you hear of anybody disparaging Thamel - it is the artery to the heart of Kth. Suburbanite are more comfortable in the suburbs I suppose.

dogster Oct 30th, 2008 04:41 PM

O.K. we're all very nice in here - but someone had got to tell anatole he/she is a complete arsehole.

Who wants to be first in the queue?

Jaya Oct 30th, 2008 05:13 PM

It looks like you're first in line on this one Dogster. I don't see anyone in front of you! :)

rhkkmk Oct 30th, 2008 05:32 PM

arsehoule it is

dogster Oct 30th, 2008 05:37 PM

Ah, well - there's a times a man has to stand up and be counted. I've been at the head of a queue of one for years now. Often I look around to observe, with surprise, that there's NO ONE standing there behind me - lol, after all that pushing and shoving.

Ahhh, this is Dog's penance for growing up iconoclastic and rude. Perhaps that's why I find anatole's posts so tiresome - lol, they remind me of ME when I was an 'enfant [truly] terrible'.

I don't mind a pithy comment or three - but anatole has neither the wit nor the intelligence to carry it off, so that makes it less fun.

But jaya, we get to hold hands across time and cyber-space for a brief moment - so we can thank anatolearsehole for that.

Kathie Oct 30th, 2008 06:16 PM

Well, I'm right behind you, Dogster! I've not seen Anatole offer up any useful info on this site, but she sure does enjoy making disparaging remarks about people she knows nothing about.

I might be angry with anatole if her comments landed anywhere near the mark. Suburbanite? $600 a night in a third world country (or, actually, anywhere)? lol

And Thamel(basically the tourist district filled with backpackers and trekkers)"the artery to the heart of Kth."? Well, we're each entitled to our own delusions.

kuranosuke Oct 30th, 2008 06:54 PM

boy, we've had a few wierd ones lately. to quote ht, "okole puka". #4.

hawaiiantraveler Oct 30th, 2008 08:14 PM

Kathie, what you just said is one of the many reasons why I love you. Really looking forward to your report!

Ken, funny I had the same thought, lol

Aloha!

dogster Oct 30th, 2008 09:34 PM

I might choose this moment to mention that I when I first came in here I was greeted to this board by a hearty "okole puka" from hawaiian traveller for breaching his code of ethics - who know?

When I responded with a volley of Hawaiian abuse the post was removed. I can't think why.

hawaiiantraveller has never talked to me since.

Do you think we could make up now, hawaii. Kissy kissy?

hawaiiantraveler Oct 31st, 2008 09:23 AM

dogster, we all win the okole puka award from time to time, some deserved others not so. Some react with a vengeance others not so.

The offense was said in defense and I cannot apologize for watching the back of a friend, but I can offer an apology if I offended and an offer of a pint if we ever meet.

Aloha!

Gpanda Oct 31st, 2008 01:52 PM

For the record, I only make disparaging remarks about people I know well, e.g., RhkKmk.

Dogster, I can assure you that there is NEVER a long line of pandas, anywhere.

Anatole-a substantive response to your remark is as follows:

This forum tends to include anywhere from moderate to ultra-expensive hotels. I got a very good moderate Phuket recco from JamesA. Admittedly, there are very few backpackers, but they are usually lovingly directed to Thorn Tree for more extensive recommendations. Most of us do not fell the need to immediately show our dark sides when communicating. Apparently, that is not a universal opinion.

BTW, Cambridge is not a suburb. It is the center. The Hub of the Hub.

rhkkmk Oct 31st, 2008 05:28 PM

cambridge is full of sub-backpackers
