Kabuki in Japan

We would like to take in a kabuki performance when we visit Japan (Tokyo, Kyoto, Kanazawa -- I assume that the major performance venues are in the larger cities.) Does anyone have suggestions or recommendations?

Can anyone tell me how to get tickets for Kabuki in Kyoto?

I think full kabuki performances are only held in Kyoto at certain times of the year, when they would be held in the Minamiza Kabuki Theater. You can, however, almost always attend a performance at Gion Corner that includes a set of 7 traditional performing arts. It's tourist-y, but it does give a sense of what these performances are. As I recall, the kabuki segment was about 20 minutes long. Hope that helps!

Thanks kja!

We will be in Kyoto in April. I will have to do some research to find out what Minamiza's schedule is.
We are looking forward to the performances at Gion Corner. I have nothing against "tourist-y!"
