JW Marriot Phuket

Overnight five nights in early February. I'm concerned about reports that their beach is too rough and not swimmable. Would love to stay at Banyan Tree or Amanpour, but too pricey. Am willing to pay $300-$350.

Any ideas?

Hi, I have stayed at the JW Marriot in Phuket, went there around June and the water was too rough to swim in, although June is monsoon season. 1 trip though I made during the month of April, allowed us to be able to stay in the water. I believe it depends on the season. I think Banyan Tree and Amanpuri would be in the $400+ level. Personally, although i love the ambience of Phuket, I have definitely seen better beach (sand/sea)quality.

Do you have any suggestions for alternatives? We will be in Phuket for four night, five days.

In Phuket, you may consider the Laguna Area, Banyan Tree is one of the resorts there. I have stayed at the Sheraton Laguna and the Dusit also at the Laguna area. For better beach quality I liked the sand in Koh Samui, Chaweng Beach. They have many different resorts there. You may look it up on the net.

My favorite beach in Asia though is Boracay Beach in the Philippines. Powdery white sand and calm waters.

Personally I love the JW marriot. Great kids club and the pools are lovely. Good choice of places to eat in the resort, and you can get a good room for 250 a night. well worth it.

We are at the Marriott Phuket right now - and people are enjoying the several pools and the beach. There are boogie boards and other beach equipment available here at the resort. Weather is subject to change, but I'd say "come on in - the water's fine!"
