Just Returned
from my Bangkok trip, and it was soo much fun. Originaly my sister was coming along but she had to cancel, and I was still excited about my trip, but a little worried about being solo. However as it turned out I met another woman at my hotel who was traveling solo and we hit it off really good and ended up spending most of the trip together. We pretty much covered most of BKK from corner to conrner.
First off the new airport was amazing, very easy to navigate and I had no problems with my luggage at all. The weather was fantastic, actually a bit cooler than last year, there was a nice breeze most of the time. In fact I turrned the airconditiong off at nite and just oppend my windows, and several mornings I actually wore a light sweater. The Christmas decorations in Siam Center, the blue christmas trees, and other displays along the sky train stops from Siam center to Phleon Chit, and Chit Lom were just absolutly beautiful, and it was so festive. The restaraunt at the top of the Central plaza shopping mall was very intresting as well, we ate there once. We spent a couple of nites partying at the stops from the nana station, the chit lom station, and the phelom chit station. We actually partyed at the Hard Rock Cafe one nite and it was actually pretty fun, from there we went to this dance club called CM2 I think. It was mostly foreign tourist, but it was really fun. Extremely high energy. We met so many people, from various parts of the world. Finland, Norway, Sweeden, the UK, France, Austrilia, New Zealand, South Africa, India, and the USA. We managed to see most of the area attractions and took a few river cruises. We spent a few days in China Town. I ended up metting this guy that was staying up along Kao San Road, so I spent a few days up there. When I was there last year I never went there, so this area was new to me. It was actually quite intresting, and I ended up getting a couple of talored made dresses while up there. the only bad thing this time, was I actually fell for a scam. Me and my freind were looking for a restaraunt I had heard about, and this taxi driver approaced us and procedded to tell us that it was closed but he new a better place. So as it turrned out we ended up spending 5000 baht on lunch. I should have known something was up, when they were waiting on us at the front of the restaraunt. Live and learn I guess. We made it to the weekend market in Chatanauk twice, and of course bought too much. As well we shopped at the MBK one day, which I really don't like as much as the weekend market. So it ended up being a really fun trip. Very tiresome, now I am just trying to get back into the swing of things at work. I need another vaction just to get things back home organized. smiles, rache |
sounds like fun

I was there at the same time. Agree about the weather, it was actually quite cool for BKK. I was wishing I had a sweater one early morning when I was golfing.
Yes, CM2 is the correct name and its in the basement of the Novotel Siam Square. It's where foreign men go to pick up Thai women, that's why you saw so many foreigners. |
Rache-Don't worry about falling for a scam. It's part of the BKK experience. Most get taken in one way or another.
We were in BKK last Chrismas and it was "cool" then as well. I guess that's why it's the high season and most crowded. Penalty avoided with a prompt report. |
Definitely sounds like you had fun! Like you, I can never have a relaxing holiday - I always want to see all and do all wherever I go and then I need a vacation to recover from the vacation :) Anyways, my husband and I are heading to Thailand in less than a month now, and can hardly wait!

OMGOSH! I wish I would have known that about the Club CM2. We were actually wondering after we got in there, but oh well we had fun dancing, and met some intresting people.
totally unrelated, but I was just wondering, becuase one of my favorite parts of the trip and it sounds really stupid, but I just lived for getting up in the morning and eating the breakfast buffet at my hotel. The eggs were just absoulutly amazing and they make them rite there for you, sunny side up nice and runny. But I was just curious why don't they have to refrigerate the eggs their? I even noticed in the Jusco grocery store that the eggs are stored room temp on the shelves? they are just so delecious. |
Rache - I've wondered something similar. I saw piles of raw chicken and piles of uncooked shrimp in the western-style supermarkets, just sitting out on tables -- with no packaging and no refrigeration. I don't understand it either.

Oh yea I noticed the chicken and seafood myself. Me and my friend actually bought a whole chicken that was hanging at one storfront we went to and had them cook it for us, it was actually very delicious. This drove another friend of mine crazy, becuase she is soooo concerned with the bird flu. It was prolly a little risky that we did it, but the place was clean and there was others there buying and eating them so we gave it a shot. I'm pretty adventrous with food.
