just going to do it - cambodia and thailand

after spending a month and a half in india visiting my daughter who moved to bombay 6 months ago, i have decided to do what i've been reading about on this forum for so long.
i know it is not the best time to travel - hot, humid, etc. but since i am in this part of the world and have time, i'm going to plunge in.

after much debate i have settled on cambodia and thailand.
my 10 day plan for cambodia so far....

april 2 - arrive phnom phen. 2 nights at monsoon boutique hotel
april 4 - drive to sihanoukville for 2 nights - haven't picked a hotel yet
april 6 - fly to siem reap 6 nights at baton boutique hotel
april 12 - depart for bangkok

to do in phnom phen:
royal palace, national museum
wat phnom, sisowath quay, genocide museum
killing fields

to do in siem reap:
roulous group of temples
angkor thom & angkor wat
bantay srei
beng melea & kbal spean
tonie sap lake

i'm in thailand from the 12th to the 26th and i have yet to make concrete plans.
i have a general idea of what i want to do in the 13 full days i have there.

bangkok - ayuthaya, kanchanapuri
chiang mai - chiang rai and the golden triangle area, lampang, sukothai
phuket, ko phi phi , krabi

i hope the experts on the forum can comment, critique, advise.....

thanks

You might consider Battambang in Cambodia. Also the boat trip from Battambang to Siem Reap, although it may be the wrong time of year. If you go to Sihanoukville you should try to get to Kompot for Bokor National Park.

i did consider the boat trip from battambang to siem reap.
it sounds great but everything i read said that it could take anywhere from 4 to 12 hours depending on the level of water and i don't think i have enough time for that.

i have been looking at visiting kampot or kep while in sihanoukville.
bokor national park sounds lovely.
thank you

I think with 13 days in Thailand, you have too many places to try & see. I would cut back on a couple. BKK alone needs at least 4-5 days to see.

yestravel, thanks for your input.
i started realizing that i was being too ambitious as soon as i started planning time spent at each place.
i need to edit down as i would like to savour each place instead of running around trying to take it all in.

I think six night in SR is too many. Three, maybe four would be enough. I would add and extra day to Phnom Penh and possibly Konpot as Thursdaysd suggest.

As far as Thailand is concerned, Sukothai and Ayuthaya are similar in lot of respects and you don't really need to visit both with the time you have. Bangkok has a wealth of sights to see and could easily take 4-5 nights ( a bit less if you are not keen on cities)
