Just back from 2 weeks in China
Just got back from 2 weeks in China and I wanted to thank everybody here on the forum who helped me in the planning.
It was just my wife and I. We had a Chinese company, China-connection (main office in Xian) make all the local arrangements and everything went like clockwork. We had a guide and driver in every location and we had an absolutely great time.
We visited Hong Kong (24 hours only), Guilin, Shanghai, Xian and Beijing.
When I logged on here, I saw the trip report of hawaiiantraveler, and I'm glad to report that we had 4 flights with 4 different airlines, and everything went smoothly, even the flight on China Air.
My full trip report will be posted on my web site in a few weeks, but in the meantime, I'll be happy to answer any specific questions about our trip.

Hi - We are leaving for 3 weeks in China on May 21st. We are flying Air China out of San Fran and Cathay Pacific between citites in China. Gulin - Shanghai - Hong Kong - and Xian. Did you fly Air China to China? I'm wondering about the luggage restrictions. We both like to shop and I keep reading about the weight limits for flights within China. I've read a lot of posts that say they never had a problem with luggage weights and others that say even when they did the penalties were only $25 or so. I'd be interested in any comments on this or other impressions of the airlines. Thanks

Regarding Air China, we had only one flight with them, and there was no problem with luggage. We also flew China Southern and China Eastern, and in each case, no one paid much attention to our luggage or carryons. Pn the other hand, our luggage did not exceed 40 KG for our 2 bags together, but as I said, they didn't seem to pay any attention.
