June in Japan! Help Please!!
 

Hello,

Me and my boyfriend are planning on visiting Japan (Tokyo and Osaka) from mid to end June! From my research, i have been informed that it is the monsoon season with heavy rainfall! We are both students and this trip will cost us alot of money so would appreciate some advice whether it will be worth going?

Also, if any one could recommend any places/ cities that are a must-see, it would be greatly appreciated. We are both absolutely interested in everything and would especially like to attend a sushi-making class if anyone knows of one.

Stay in Kyoto, not Osaka.

HawaiianTraveler would likely know the weather off top of his head, but I'm sure that two students with web savviness can research this on their own.

It's rainy season, not monsoon season. It usually doesn't rain hard in rainy season, but you can have continually drizzly days. Or it might not rain at all. And it might rain heavily for short periods, but not the whole time. People live through rainy season--life goes on with umbrellas and rain coats. I've taken groups of teachers to Japan during rainy season; one year we only had rain for one night during the 10 days in country. Other years our feet were wet all day for 2-3 days during our 10 days there. Don't take jeans--they'll take multiple days to dry if you wash them! There's a certain romance to Japan in the rain--it really is beautiful in many ways.

Yes, a trip to Japan is very much worth it imho!

The weather in late June will be wetter especially this year but not torrential. Long story but just trust me.

As lcuy says the rain will cool things off as it is the time of the year that Japan starts to get very humid too. Just pick up an umbrella from your hotel(most have multitudes that they let the guests use for free just return when you get back) or the nearest drug store or vendor.

Regarding the rain, I am going in June too and somewhat worried about the rain (not of monsoons, just that I won't be able to see everything I want)... how feasible are doing all the temples in the rain? What else is there to do in Kyoto (for example) indoors?

Nice tip on the no jeans - I'll remember to pack accordingly.

Non-stop rain during my two full days in Kyoto last August. Didn't stop me from visiting many temples and taking hundreds of pictures. It was so humid that I had to keep wiping my lens, though:
