JR pass cost effective for stay within Tokyo?

Hi all =)

I'm planning a trip to Tokyp in August and considering the costs of getting around. What I am primarily concerned with is the cost of train fare, since it varies by distance and I can't really judge the price of getting from point A to B. Would you recommend the purchase of a JR pass for 7 days in Tokyo, taking in account the trip from NRT and back, exploring the city, as well as a day trip to Yokohama?

I cannot imagine a JR pass, even a JR East pass that would pay for itself in any reasonable tour itinerary of the Tokyo area. I also think that you will not want to limit yourself to just using trains around Tokyo as the subway in many cases may be a better choice of tranportation.

You might consider buying day tickets for the train and/or subway. I think an all day subway pass in Tokyo was 700 yen?
