Joe Louis Puppet Theatre

Hello! Will it be easy to get tickets to puppet theatre on same day, from our hotel? How long is the actual performance? Finally, how far is this theatre from the Peninsula Hotel?
Much thanks!

The theater is in the Suan Lum Night Bazaar. You'll be able to see it on any map. The MRT goes there, which you can get to by Skytrain and then just change lines. Or, take a taxi. The performance is about 2 hours, maybe less. Tickets are easy to buy right at the theater day of the show.

Tickets are easy to get. A taxi from the Peninsula pier across the river from the hotel will take 20 minutes without traffic and as much as 40 minutes with traffic. I suggest that you eat near the theater and avoid any time issues. There's a restaurant next to the theater that is serviceable.

Much thanks! Is the puppet show early like 6PM, or later like 8PM? We only have one day in Bangkok, so I am trying to decide if it is worth it to see the theatre, or to just enjoy a nice meal and shop at the night market. Is the Suan Lum night market the best one in Bangkok?

My memory is that the show is 7:00 or 7:30 p.m., but in any case, it is inside the Suan Luum night market and it is simple to eat near the theater, see the show and browse the market in one easy stop. This show is unique and well worth the time.

We went to the theare last year. It was very enjoyable, even my teenage son gave it the thumbs up. The show was in Thai with no English translation. We bought our tickets early and read the synopsis of the performance and had no problem following the plot.

The theatre is easily accessible as are tickets. Seats are assigned, so it's worth while to have your concierge call in reservations.

The show begins at 7:30. You'll be asked to pick up your tickets by 7:00. Get there at 6:00 and have dinner right in front of the theatre. Around 7:00, the puppeteers come out with a few puppets for photo opportunities.

The show runs from 7:30 till about 8:45. More pictures can be taken immediately following the performance. You'll then have ample opportunity to browse the Night Bazaar.

As I've suggested elsewhere, the Joe Louis Puppet Theatre should not be missed!

marthagrif,

At our performance last Saturday there was ample English dialogue tastefully projected on screens.
